Seafood experience in the winter!

I like trying new restaurants in my city and last night we had the chance to visit one of the most famous restaurants over here. There was a promotional event for one week and they offered a special menu for a fixed price. It became very popular but my boyfriend insisted and we managed to book a table. I was excited all week about it! The restaurant is in front of the sea, so it must be amazing in the summer. We had a front table so the view was fantastic during the dinner. I guess this was our early valentine's day celebration, we also had a bottle of wine just the two of us, and I can home feeling pleasantly dizzy. I have light sensitivity and I can't eat seafood at all during the summer, so I enjoyed the experience even more! Do you eat seafood during winter? Also, do you like to celebrate your special occasions in restaurants? This picture was taken by me, you can see the sea in the front and the little boats in the port. The dish presentation was like art too, I am planning to post some pictures soon!

This looks like a lovely restaurant. I prefer to eat seafood in winter because it's safer. I like to go out to dine to celebrate special occasions.

Why do you think it's safer? My family used to take us to summer taverns for seafood so I had connected it with summertime. This was my first time in winter, and it was a unique experience. I always thought that the fresh fish in mediterranean sea is caught and served in the summer. It depends on the species and their peak season too. I was reading that the squid fishing season is during winter!

@LadyDuck It was an interesting menu. We had tuna for the main course and the other dishes were squids, saddled seabream ceviche with lime which I tasted for the first time. I have never tried mussels, my experience with seafood was limited in general. I am reading now that we should avoid oysters in months without an "R" (May to August)!

@besweet As you say it depends on the species, I would never eat mussels and oysters in summer. The other fish are more or less safe all the year round, even if the Atlantic salmon and bluefin tuna should be avoided in summer.

How lovely and what a view! I know how much you looked forward to your dinner and glad it was fabulous! We eat out all the time, but also celebrate special occasions in restaurants. We are fortunate to live close to the ocean in Florida and at our home up north, so eat fresh seafood year round.

I was excited about the dinner and the resteaurant lived up to our expectations! The view must be even better in daytime, the table was literally 1,5 meters from the sea. If I had the option to choose, I would like to live near the sea in my whole life. It's very beautiful and calming. I believe you are lucky to live in Florida, so close to the ocean.

@DianneN My parents have their origins in cities that are located in the mountains of Greece. But I love the sea more than the mountains, it's nice to be in the nature but the beach makes me happy and calm. Restaurants with a view are usually more pricey, I do visit them when we have something to celebrate! I hope to go back there too! Did you choose to live in your city or you were lucky to be born there?

@besweet I hope you can return to dine there again, or at any other restaurant on the sea. I consider myself blessed to see the water every day when in Florida. We usually try to choose to eat at restaurants on the ocean, but there are many fabulous ones more inland.

That does sound lovely. I love Lobster and shrimp. Since good lobster is quite pricey we usually only can afford it once a yr. Most of the time it is Red Lobster for our anniversary, but having to pass on it this yr due to finances.

I have never tried Lobster, is it as tasty as they say? It is great to save for a special occasion, sorry to hear that you have to postpone this nice tradition this year.

Home gatherings are great too. But it does save a lot of time to celebrate in a restaurant and enjoy the evening without having to prepare, cook and serve everything by ourselves!

Thanks it was a wonderful dinner and we would never have the chance to eat there in full price. This specia menu was very well designed but anything outside the list was too expensive!

Thats fantastic, I eat shrimp and some fish when I can afford it. A couple of months ago I was at a catered workshop. What was catered? Taco tuesday, lol. Tacos with the fixins, includin shrimp. Never turn down free shrimp.....

I like shrimp too! It was a fixed menu so we didn't have that option, the main dish was tuna and we also had sides with squid and saddled seabream which I tried for the first time! It wasn't free but the price was affordable for a special occasion. They offered a free welcome drink though and it was a nice surprise!

@besweet awesome, free drinks are always a plus. I'm not much of a squid or eel person, too rubbery like chewing on latex

@librarygeek1980 the squid was a little hard in chewing but the eel was perfect. I had never appreciated it in the past and I changed my mind.

Sometimes we will visit a restaurant for a special occasion. Other times, we enjoy just staying at home.

Calebrating at home is great too! I like doing that when I have some extra time to prepare and cook a nice dinner for my man.

I've never heard that there is a difference between eating seafood in summer or in winter.Fish is fish, isn't it?

Yes there is no difference, but people prefer to eat seafood in summer. So most seafood restaurants here are seasonal, only the ones in the city work all year! It's more possible to eat fresh "open sea" fish in the summer in my opinion but I can eat when we don't have much sun otherwise my allergy will be triggered.

It was lovely indeed! Seafood can be expensive, we wouldn't afford this restaurant without the offer.

It was a fun evening, the experience lasted for about 3 hours. I will definitely go again if they do the special menu in the future!
