I have an aquarium just sitting in here that needs to be cleaned. I would like to put it back into action...It just seems like cleaning it is such a big task. I had fish in it one time but they all died..it was so sad. I am not sure what caused the carnage in the fish tank. I think if I do get it going again, I am going to stick to goldfish at least for now. They are quite hardy.

Tropical freshwater aquaria are fun, saltwater ones are a lot harder to maintain. Try cleaning the tank, putting in an undergravel filter and a thermostatic heater. Plant it with a few aquatic plants and leave it for a couple of weeks before introducing some guppies or swordtails - those fish are quite hardy. Best of luck!

I have had an aquarium almost my entire life, I can give you some tips if you tell me how many gallons your tank is and what it is in the tank that you find hard to clean, is it the lines due to water marks or the mere size of the tank etc...?

@louievill Thanks for the tips. Of course I have several projects to get done before I work on the aquarium, but your advice is appreciated..

@snowy22315 oh it's a small tank, what I do is use a very fine sand paper, the black one used for metal ( not for wood), wet the surface to be sanded. Sand it little by little while also wetting and rinsing. Most smaller water lines would hardly be visible once the tank has water. Btw those are mineral deposits.

Yeah...they obviously got some kind of virus, and passed it off to each other one by one.

I used to have it when I was a kid. I loved it.

yea,but it's hard to keep one clean in this house.even with snails, tiny sharkfish and a bigger filter.i think the humidity is just too high, and makes algae worse.

Lots of humidity here too..I am hoping to move.but the humidity is not likely going to be different in a new place.

I still have the aquarium and some tropical fish now. It is nice to see the fish swim around. I can't have a cat or dog at home. I am glad that I can still keep fish at home.

We both were quite interested and successfully maintained an aquarium, while we lived in the city. When we shifted here we gave that aquarium to a school and bought a new one but sadly getting items for the aquarium remained a problem here and had to give up maintaining one.

Actually, we have an aquarium inside our house when our child was just about 3 year old. It has small goldfish and have lights and corals inside. When I am feeling lonely, I would just sit by it, turn off the light and watch the fishes swim in the lighter aquarium. It takes away the stress actually.

I've never had one, nor wanted one. I don't like to see fish or animals in an enclosed space.
