Former Chicago Cubs left handed relief pitcher Travis Wood is going to sign a two year, $12 million dollar contract with the Kansas City Royals. Wood decided to go with the Royals since his desire to be a starting pitcher in the Major Leagues in 2017 and not work as a relief pitcher like he did for the Chicago Cubs during the 2016 Major League Baseball season. Wood will be competing for a starting pitcher position with the Royals during spring training which begins next month. If Wood fails to make it as a starting pitcher for the Royals, he will have to be content working as a relief specialist pitcher for the Royals since he is left handed and the majority of pitchers in the Major Leagues are right handed.
