Stranger Danger! "Not interested, what do you not understand"?

United States
February 16, 2017 3:30pm CST
I am currently on myLot while my boyfriend & dad works on the fence out in front. Randomly a man comes up and greets to propose a question about "windows". Clearly we have remodeled our windows already yet he questions if we are interested? My dad said no thank you - we are busy. Then the man said thank you & continues to ask if we were the homeowners. Why does it matter if we are the homeowners or not? We are NOT interested! I also have a hunch that the man wanted to go up closer to see if they were paying attention because my boyfriend had his wallet , phone and keys on the bench near them. I blurted out in Vietnamese and he looked startled that there were more people in the house or something!

@marlina Yeah but we were secured in a gated area so he wouldn't get in anyway. Perhaps he thought he could open the gate while they were not paying attention - who knows.

Hahaha my dad spoke English. Then I just screamed in Vietnamese and it startled the guy! Had a said it in English he probably wouldn't be startled because he would understand.

He could have been looking to steal by the look of it or the two things. Take care of belongings and its so easy to forget yourself for a while. We all do that too.

@infatuatedbby Oh well that's good. I don't like it when they ask too many questions and keep on pressing when it's quite obvious you're not interested.

While working outside, your BF should have placed his valuables inside the house. You can never be trusting these days.

@infatuatedbby Security cameras would be after the fact. What if he runs away with the phone and the wallet?

You are right to be leery. If they are a legitimate company they can only do work for the home owners so they wouldn't waste time talking to you if you weren't the home owner that is likely why they asked.

Yes, why would they care if we were the homeowners or not. It has nothing to do with windows as the window are still new and updated so that was a red flag.

Instinct is a good thing to listen to in my opinion. We've had a lot of instinct bred out of us with politeness and pc and all that. It's still worth listening to the lizard brain Look at number 3 Instinct is there for a reason.

Yes it does! I was taught to be alert, even from walking alone or driving home. If a car follows for a long time, trust your instinct, and, go a different route.
