"Just shut up and play the record" And PLEASE don't be one of those hip posers that talks about how they LOVE the crackle and pop when they play an album. If it is making that much noise, it is trash and you evidently don't know how to care for vinyl. Seriously...I love vinyl, and it isn't because I like noise. I HATE noise. That's why I take care of my albums. And that is why they sound great. Now play the damned record already...

You are right, if you take care of the vinyls thy do not make noise, but music. How is little Scar? I hope he is recovering.

I would have to listen to a well cared for record, on GOOD speakers and such, and then a CD on then same, I dont know that I care one way or another, never had a good chance to compare. I do like free, which is why right now I listen to youtube

It has gotten better over the years for digital, but when CD first came out, the Jethro Tull 'Aqualung' release was just horrible. They hadn't gotten around to remastering old tapes yet, and the background hiss (which was supposed to be non-existent on CD's) was ridiculous...they didn't take into account the audio headroom on discs and didn't re-EQ it...just sucked big time. A lot just depends on how the people in the studio 'master' a release...I have two issues of Chickenfoot III on vinyl...the US one sounds like crap, the import is great.

@JolietJake See I had no idea, and I thought the 'record scratchy sound" was with ALL records

We have so many albums here, but I do think quite a few of them make noise due to our negligence in our younger days. Oh well, we have no record player to play them on. Not sure why my husband still hangs onto those.

Have you heard of using wood glue to 'deep clean' an album?

@teamfreak16 I've got one I am debating giving it a shot on just to see...it's bad enough I don't think it would hurt it

The smell, the gatefold cover, the production sound the recording had when it was first released, they are all great, but, like you, I am baffled by those who say they love the Rice Crispies sound effects of damaged vinyl. I have never stopped using cassettes and I am glad that they seem to be making a small comeback but that doesn't mean I want them to hiss.

I think most of them that say that are into vinyl for the 'cool' factor and don't realize it makes them sound like wannabes

I thought I´d have a record on the post. I loved the noise of HiFi, not the noise we have now. I´m old. I´m of the time of the vinyls.

I don't think I have vinyl anymore. I think we have given you most if not all that was in the house. And in the shed and in the garage and from the back porch and I think that is all the places we had it.
