Death Ruined Our Fridge!

By death I mean the severed head of a deer that my father in law and brother in law hunted back in DECEMBER! I hadn't noticed the dear head until last month and figured they were saving it in our fridge because they were going to do something with it. It wasn't until the head started giving off a disgusting smell that spread from the fridge to the freezer part that I realized that they FORGOT the head was even freaking in there! I brought it up to my mother in law and she spoke to my father in law on Wednesday. When I got home from classes that night I asked if she told him about it because it was giving off a gross smell and she said she hadn't asked if he finished taking care of it. She did when I was there and he said not yet and that they would be skinning it then pitching it... That NEVER happened because once again he had forgotten about it. This deer head has not been frozen at all so it was decomposing in our fridge! Finally today my husband texted his father asking if he was going to do whatever he needed to do with it today since we figured he forgot about it and never gave it a second thought after Wednesday night. We were right, he forgot about it again. He told my husband to just throw it away. We didn't throw it away before because we figured since he said he was going to skin it first he was going to do something with it before getting rid of it. Also we didn't kill this deer and we didn't shove its head in our fridge without a second thought to leave to decompose and spread the smell of death that would get on to any food that was not sealed. I really hope our wedding cake that we are supposed to eat on our first anniversary doesn't smell like it because it is wrapped up and sealed well but you never know. Our cake is in the freezer but the smell got in there too so I guess we'll find out on our first anniversary. Does anyone know how to get the smell of decaying deer out of the fridge and freezer? I used bleach but it didn't work. Have you ever had something so nasty happen?

This sounds really gross. It must be a big fridge if you haven't noticed it until now.

It was in a bag so I couldn't see it was a dear head until I noticed the big bag and looked inside
