Do you think of God during Lightning Storms?

We were having pork chops for dinner. It was such a nice sunny afternoon, I decided to take a leisurely walk to the public market. After buying a lb. of freshly chopped pork from my butcher, I headed for home. Somehow the weather took a change for the worse. Ominous dark clouds came out of nowhere and blanketed the sky. Tiny drops of rain started to fall as I quicken the pace of my strides. Midway through my dash home, the skies open up and the rain poured through, soaking me to the skin. Looking for temporary shelter from the downpour, I headed to a nearby Cathedral where a crowd in the same predicament as I were congregating in it's foyer. Thunder rumbled with a deep disturbing dissonance and lighting tore through the sky's fabric. Some people in the vestibule instinctively cringe inward as if electricity had surge into their bodies. In this holy of all holy sanctuaries, thoughts of hell's damnation for unrepentant sinners and sheep who have long left the flock of the church should have cross my mind given the frightening display of GOD's WRATH! However, that was not what I was thinking as I continue watching and listening to nature's symphony in the sky. Glancing at the time, I was wondering what was the quickest way to prepare our supper. Should I use the oven, turbo broiler or pan fry? Suddenly a"flash" of insight cross my mind. How about asking God to cook the pork chops with a bolt of lightning? The rain had began to taper off although there were some occasional lightning strikes in the distance. I decided to wait until the sky fully cleared before continuing on my way home. No sense in taking a chance GOD heard my irreverent thoughts and decided to grant my wish for well cooked pork chops with me as an additional roast dish. Do you think of "God" and your mortality during lightning storms? Image: Public Domain Pictures

I think of God and the glorious storm he provided for us to see. Love a good old thunderstorm. However, I prefer to be sheltered when one happens.

@ElusiveButterfly _ Better safe indoor since the odds of l in 700,000 being struck by lightning in the US is not very comforting.

I think God is very near when there is lightning storms like he is demonstrating his power up in the sky. Sometimes that's what I think

Interesting way to look at things. I think many times when faced with some kind of challenge God is there first in my mind as I ask him for guidance and to help me.

@KrauseHome _It is a comforting thought and your comment reminded me of the song, "You'll never walk along" which also seem appropriate for this post.

Oh, yes, very much so. By the way, I appreciated your wit and humor about God hearing you and roasting you with the pork chops...I had a good chuckle. Lightening is the best expression of my God for me, and I feel extremely drawn to His Might and Power. However, I do not feel subservient...rather the opposite...excited and exhilarated. I am very close to my God and my sense of humor defines him as my close companion. And no, on theses occasion I do not think of my own mortality...I just revel in his company.

@Gita17112016 _This post was made with humor in mind. Religion is a touchy subject and some people take it too seriously. Hopefully no one was offended by my irreverence.

@jstory07 _I wonder if they have to tuck in their wings before throwing the balls. They're kinda cumbersome. Or maybe they just check it in with the cloakroom attendant before proceeding to the bowling lanes.

I don't like being out when they are happening and yes I do think of God then and his majesty but generally don't mind them if I'm outdoors.
