SunFlowers

About 15 years ago I made this Sunflower sign for my daughter. It was in my era of using antique box wood to paint on. I got a lot of the wood boxes from the wineries that no longer used them because plastic boxes were lighter and easier to store. My husband cut the boxes up and I sold hundreds ( maybe thousands) of garden signs and other things. Some boxes if they were in good shape I painted the whole box and sold it that way. My daughter bought a charming farm house up in the boonies and she loved this sign so it lived in her yard until I brought it home last year. (and I hung it up and forgot it) All the paint had faded and the smooth wood was now almost falling apart, part of the sunflowers are broken and the wire I used on it is rusty. BUT, my daughter loved it and didn't want a new one, she wanted that one touched up and back in her yard.... She is visiting me for a few days and pointed to the sign and said I want you to fix that.... so I did. She is leaving today and the sign will go with her. The paint is drying and before she leaves I will spray it with a sealer to protect the new paint and hopefully slow down the demise of the wood. Primitive is what I like to do. And I'm proud of my daughter that loves that sign. I'm going to miss her when she goes home... I imagine this will not impress most here on myLot but it was a labor of love.

That is so nice! I am a sunflower lover so this is also something I would treasure. It is great that she loves it so much and it is something you made for her so she always has a part of you with her at her home. It is always sad to see them leave to go home but it is nice that you have the time together.

I love rustic looking artwork too, and I love sunflowers. I can see why your daughter wanted you to fix it up for her. She's got awfully great taste!

Something are just very sentimental. And they hold personal feelings. I am sure that sign will be around for many more years to come. You should be proud of that.

@PainsOnSlate I am sure you do. And as I said, things like that are personal and have sentimental value. That will be passed down from her as well.

Maybe she really love it that much and she value you much and your works. Children sometimes really live what they parents create and give it to them.

Thank you I hope you can find some to hang on your house or do it yourself, its easy. It might be easy for me because I have the machines to cut the wood, the drills to make holes for the wire and the paint and sprays needed but if you paint or know someone who does it can be done...

It was sprayed years ago but 15 years of weather is a long time, I put heavy duty duct tape on the back for a reinforcement too so hopefully it will live a long time again...

@PainsOnSlate It is amazing how quickly some things deteriorate when out in the weather. You only have to look at some of the little houses or whatever at Gnomesville to see how quickly things can rot.

This is a very sweet story. Today parents don't often make such kind of things for the children because they can easily buy anything, and then children also don't cherish the gifts from parents so much. I am glad that your daughter still likes this sign so much even if after so many years. This sign does have a long history. And she will also pass it to her children one day and she will be proud to say that this gift is from their grandma
