'Nother Home

The time has come to look for a new home. Our younger son bought a brand new house several years ago. It is a gorgeous, squeaky clean, 3 bedroom, 3 bath house. So why get rid of it? He is getting married this coming October and plans to start a family immediately, we hope. He wants a forever home for his family. But he wants his home to be in one of the best school districts, yet close enough to his workplace. Of course he has years before any children of his will begin school. He doesn't have to rush into anything. He has an agent helping him. He is a very wise son.

I was thinking about selling my home and buying an apartment fotme and another for rest. But buying and selling homes now are quite blown out of proportion so I decided to wait unitl everything was more settled.

@marguicha It also varies by area, too. Whatever you decide, I'm sure it will be fine.

I think interest rates are pretty low right now. It's a buyers market.

I think this is a really good move on his part. A good school for children is so important. Its better to move before they arrive so they will be all ready and settled when they do have kids that are school age. Since it would a few years at least until he has a child old enough for school he has lots of time to find the perfect house in an excellent school district.

@DianneN That's one of the main reasons we stayed where we are now. We moved out here 10 years ago just before my 4th was born. The in laws got us a house. We loved the neighborhood as soon as we moved in. It's a tiny school district and a strong sense of community. Our house was awful, and we've moved a few times since.. and our house is still awful, but we won't leave the district until the last child has graduated!

@katsmeow1213 To us, school is the most important thing. Just think how well all your kids have developed and how talented and bright they are. We sacrifice for our children and are proud of it, even if it means cutting back on ourselves. I'll pat you on the back!

@DianneN I think he has your eyes and cheeks! If they have hired an agent then it should be easier to find the right place. Agents usually do a full review of the neighborhood before proposing a house.

@besweet I guess it's true what they say about couples beginning to look alike. I must look like my hubby now, and therefore the kids look like us. Lol! I do see the eyes and cheek resemblance. My son just FaceTimed us and he sees his cheeks looking like mine, too. You definitely have a good eye, then! He does have an agent. Many thanks!

What a gorgeous couple, Dianne. @DianneN , your son is very wise to start planning already. I know couples who didn't and it is a huge struggle to find a property close to a good school.

He is wise indeed to take a long term approach to finding the right house since he plans to reside in it for years to come. We never imagined when we bought this house that we'd still be here 22 years later, but it has worked out for us.

@DianneN Both our sons have informed us they don't want this house. Neither plans to return here to live. We're going to leave it to both of them just to spite them and make them come back to handle it when we're gone.

When it came time to start a family, I did the same thing. I researched all the local public schools to determine the best schools to send my kids to, and then I went out and found a house to buy in that school zone. The funny thing was, is I ended up moving to Gainesville before my oldest daughter even started kindergarten, so the whole effort ended up being for nought. haha
