Would you kill your own child?

I watched this movie yesterday about two brothers who rob their own parents' jewellery store. Something goes wrong and their mother gets shot and is killed. The father is so distraught and is dissatisfied with how the police is handling the case. He takes matters into his own hands and conducts his own investigation. What he discovers shocked him. He now knows who's responsible for the death of his beloved wife. To cut the story short, he ends up killing his son. His younger son is spared because he runs away. I expected that the father might want to kill the son but I thought he might change his mind at the last minute but he did it. He killed his own son! It was so shocking. For me, no matter what my children do, I will never disown them much less killing them! What would you have done? Would you kill your own child?

I would have done the same. A criminal will always be a criminal, he did a favor to the world.

@LadyDuck ... I agree.. we have an obligation to the society...which rises above our personal relationships.

@Happy2BeMe I've been wanting to watch this movie for some time because Ethan Hawke is in it. I just fast forward the unsavoury scenes.

@averygirl72 That is good if you're going to war but to kill purposely takes a different kind of mentality.

It's only a movie but in real life there are actually more horrific stories of parricide or infanticide.

Indeed there are many cases of parents murdering their own children but to watch it on screen is just so surreal.

You should never disown your child. Your child is part of you. You should never hurt them in anyway.

That's right. No matter what they had done, they should be forgiven especially if it's an infraction against the parents. Parental love should be unconditional.

@UmiNoor I agree with you. When I were coming up me and my mothers would have our moments but she was always there no matter what.

It is terrible. The ending was really shocking. Killing your own child after losing your wife will leave you alone in this world. I think the father must regret it now that he’s all alone. I can’t remember the title of the movie now.

Personally I wonder how people who have really done things like this can live with themselves. Many times I feel their is a hidden addiction or demon that they are hiding from that makes them be able to do this. I hope in time he they would feel remorse for doing this.

I wouldn't, but we know there are people that have done it. Its sad to see this happen. I think if a person did the crime, then prison is where they should be sent.

There are many parents that do kill their own children for a myriad of reasons.

First and foremost, I would inculcate right values, and in case I fail, I believe it is obligatory on me to keep the society functioning smoothly so while killing is too much...informing police, I would.

That is hard to answer. If the son had been a problem for years and if the father loved his wife very much, I can imagine being enraged to the point of shooting him.

My youngest is 14 and my oldest is 26. I have four lovely daughters; all born three years apart except for the youngest who is 6 years younger than her older sister.
