I love a great steak and am always looking for an incredible one. Ikinari Steak might be impressive, as the restaurants are already in Japan. Now one is opening in New York and there will be 10 diners that can sit and the rest will be standing to eat. Do you eat dinner standing up? You choose the cut of meat and its weighed in grams in front of you. All meat is cooked rare. Now I'm not sure I want to eat a rare steak. What about you is rare how you eat steak?

I have no objection to eating a rare (or even blue) steak, as long as it's very high quality fillet steak. I think that eating standing up, however, is a terrible idea and very bad for the digestion and the proper enjoyment of a meal. Steak, especially, should be chewed well and eaten slowly and food in general should be served and eaten at a leisurely pace. I know that this ethos is becoming less and less common in modern town living and that it will probably be the downfall of civilisation in the end!

I know so many people are rushed and anyone living in my area has seen the freeway with hours of traffic jams and nobody is moving very fast. I'm not sure how my family would feel standing up for dinner. We usually talk for quite awhile while having dinner.

@Fishmomma That's the way it should be. Food should be an accessory to conversation, not an end in itself (unless you are on your own and ravenous, of course!).

@owlwings I fully agree with you. I like my steak rare, or even blue, but I would never eat standing, it's a very bad idea.

Yes, I want my steak rare, better blue than medium rare, but I want to eat comfortably seated. There are no evidence that eating standing is bad for you, but I like to sit down and enjoy my meal.

I think less people will have a family meal together. Maybe single people that want to get a fast meal will eat a few bites and take it home to finish. I'm just not sure, as I know in Las Vegas many people were eating lots of food and walking including two people in their 20's discussing finishing their food before they get to the building that had a concert soon. They were eating steak and vegetables in a bowl really fast.

@Fishmomma Eating standing really fast surely is the worst habit one can get. Ikinari means suddenly and it is possible that it is for people who want a fast meal. Bad idea to bring a good rare steak at home, you cannot re-heat a steak.

@LadyDuck That is what I thought; however, think some people do it anyway. Well, maybe this is like cold pizza something many of my college friends would eat in the morning. I think its going to be interesting to see how well this restaurant does, as if well they will open many of them.

That is very cool! Not a fan of eating standing up, unless there is a table in front of me. For some reason it bothers me when people eat standing up with no table. One of those weird quirks I guess haha I like mine well done since I am just getting back into eating steak, steak used to hurt my stomach when I was growing up. I don't want to go drastic into anything just yet.

Everyone will have a table just not a chair. I'm not sure what to think and wanted to see what others think in many different countries. I do go out walking and take a snack, so eat that food while walking. I'm hoping somebody in Japan can tell us how successful the restaurant is there.
