My daughter went to a small Christian college here in Kansas. She was blessed to have some exceptional music opportunities.
She already had played cello for five years when she started, or even longer. She did a little piano, violin, guitar, and who knows what else.
She took five years of marimba, and gave an hour long recital, that was a pleasure to see.
A marimba is a large instrument that some might call a xylophone. Metal flat keys set up the same as a piano keyboard.
Her show stopping piece was The Flight of the Bumblebee. Played in the dark, with four mallets. Someone thought of this, for fun. They put glow in the dark tape on the heads of the mallets, and watched them fly like the bumblebees in the dark.

There are many things that have passed from our care. We just run out of energy and time to take care of them. Did your mom play the xylophone?
