Old or new car?

I have a nice Nissan 2014 car and it treats me well on the road. The only thing is that with today's technology, if it breaks down, the repairs can be expensive. Keys are no exception. You lose a key and you stand to pay up to $300 or more dollars. My son is a mechanic and he has been working on restoring a 1983 antique Oldsmobile. When I see the hassle-free way in which you can repair an old car without spending a fortune vs the new, it can be tempting to invest in an older car. Some were built to last. How about you? Would you buy a new car or invest in an old one.

I have never lost a key. I hope that isn't common for you to lose a key. With old cars, you have to maintain more often than the newer cars. Old parts could be more pricey too especially since they no longer carry it.

No, my son lost the key but it was later found--thank God. I am not in the habit of losing keys. It can be expensive. Concerning old cars, it depends,my son got some of his parts at a good price. It pays to shop around. Thanks for your contribution, Michelle and see you at Literacy.

Gotta agree with this one, old cars are worth fixing up if you have the money, know how, and parts are still made.

@Montecristodog I'm glad your son found his key later on! Typically the car comes with 2 original keys and 1 spare. :) And now a days with the newer car the keys don't have chips but you could still make a copy just encase you lock yourself out but can't start the engine. Nice to see you on myLot :)

I like the idea of having a newer car for the stability.. (one would hope) that it won't break down as often. But I would LOVE to have a classic muscle car.. a 1968 Pontiac GTO to be exact. but I would almost take any classic GTO or maybe some other muscle cars.. like a Chevelle or maybe a Charger or Roadrunner. I grew up surrounded by GTO's they are my first love!

We have a 'new' second-hand BMW but the computer system is very complicated. We are hoping it doesn't break down too often.

A new one is better but I would invest in an old car without no problem.
