Thinking Positively

I was given a portable automatic dishwasher yesterday. Hubby went out to possibly buy the adapter we need. He called to ask me what kind of detergent I wanted, so I am thinking positively that I may be able to use it tonight. Little things like that make me very happy. I have loaded up some dishes and I am ready to go when he gets home.

I hope you like it. I had a dishwasher but it was so costly to use it I went back to washing dishes by hand. I hate doing dishes it is my least favorite chore.

I cook so much it is more costly for me to hand wash, plus I never feel that they are as clean as I like them to be. I also have always believed it cut down on the spread of colds and viruses.

@GardenGerty I definitely think a dishwasher sanitizes them much better then hand washing dishes.

It is all the cookware and stuff that really bothers me. Or having a salad bowl as well as a dinnerplate. It just adds up.

@GardenGerty In two weeks at our next concert, we will have an extra four adults and two children for a meal plus the dishes for cooking for them. It certainly adds up.

It is working wonderfully. I think it had been in storage, so it took a while to clear the hoses, but it cleans really well.

I have had my dishwasher for well over 20 years. And I think I am going to need a new one at some point. It still works but it does not seem to do the job it used to do. Good luck with your dishwasher.

I always buy good quality detergent for mine, and then I also put vinegar in it. Twenty years means yours was made back when they made good appliances.

@GardenGerty That I agree with. It is well made. I was thinking about getting those cleaners that they use for the dishwashers. But you say vinegar. So that would work just as good then? If so, then I will buy some white vinegar and run it through a cycle.

@inertia4 Most of the cleaners I have seen for the dishwasher, like Lemmishine are just citric acid. You can buy a package of unsweetened lemon koolaid for the same result. I use vinegar all the time as our water where we lived before was very hard. We have quite a few minerals here too. My first load I ran, lots of little gravel came out of the hose.

I just feel like it uses hotter water than my hands can stand and does a better job at sanitizing. It helps me be organized.I know many people do not use dishwashers. It did make my day to be able to clean so much once we had it in the house.

I only run 1 load a week anymore now that my husband is only home for 2 days out of the week. But I would never be without a dishwasher-you'll love it. Be careful what kind of soap you use, we had an issue with using the Sunlight tablets. They make so much soap, that it raises the water level to the point where it would leak beneath it, and being built in you didn't know it until my husband noticed something going tap tap on a ceiling tile in the basement beneath the dishwasher. We were advised not to use the tablets that have that plastic like coating, so I used the hard tablets, and I actually will cut them in half on occasion so as not to get the soap build up in the machine again.

Where we lived before Cascade was the only one that worked with the hard water. I am using it here as well. I put vinegar in the floor of the dishwasher when I run it, it keeps it from over sudsing and cuts grease.

Congratulations. I agree that using hotter water is more sterile than doing dushes by hand.

A friend of mine posted it on a buy sell trade group on Facebook. She had been given one to build in and had not gotten to use this one. Not sure where she got it. People showed up saying they wanted it, but never came back with a truck and my friend needed the space.

Yay, that's nice and I hope you can use it. How come you wouldn't be able to, just the detergent was needed or was something wrong with it?

Because it is a portable we needed an adapter to hook it to the faucet. The city he went to had a store that had many choices, so he had to figure it out. So many times things have gone wrong lately I sometimes get pessimistic. However, this has worked out well. I think it had been in storage a while, so it needs to run. Love the shining clean glassware.

Hope you really enjoy the dishwasher. We have one and it is rarely used. One of the 'neat freaks' here liked to scrub everything so clean the dishwasher is not needed. (Or, so we are told).

I have never had a neat freak who loved to scrub dishes. Lucky you. Some people find it soothing to do household chores.

Ours hasn't been used since we had the bubble incident of 2016 lol I am not sure but I think it needs a new seal not that there is a huge rush to fix it because we don't use enough dishes to justify really using it on a regular basis. There is only 4 of us. I hope you enjoy your new appliance.

There are only two of us, but I cook a lot and make things like homemade yogurt and granola and jerky. Always extra dishes to clean. I am thinking we only need one load during the work week and one or two on the weekend. I can be here on myLot or outside when the dishes are washing, as I am now.
