Stalking

The subject of stalking was raised on 48 Hours tonight. They said that 1 in 6 woman are stalked and 1 in 16 in men. NCIS star Pauley Perrette was attacked by a stalker on November, 13, 2015. She was attacked while crossing the street in Hollywood. He punched in the nose repeatedly and repeated his name over and over again telling her he was going to kill her. She is still alive today because she told him her nephew had the same name and he finally told her to "Get the hell out of here!" She is now working to get the laws changed. Stalking laws that have not been changed or up dated in twenty years. A expert on stalking, Clinical Police and Forensic Psychologist Kris Mohandie, says that a victim of stalking needs to avoid all contact, save all messages and emails, always be alert, make all those around you aware of this danger, keep law enforcement aware of any damage or contact you have had. If interested more information on this here: Pauley says that police need to be retrained and made aware of how to treat potential victims. When victims report being stalked police don't seem to taken seriously. Police will justify the attack and tell the victim they shouldn't have this person there, they dress that way, they souldn't have done this or that. There have even been instances where police make fun of them. This is the victim of a crime who could have been hurt or killed. I certainly agree that the laws need to change. Have you ever been stalked? I was by my last husband. I had PTSD so bad I would run to the other side of the ho use whenever the door bell rang. This went on for about six to eight months after I had left the man. I was also given death threats. The ludicrous thing in my case was that I got a restraining order against him and he went right down and got one against me because I had tried to defend myself against him.
A stalking expert and police psychologist explains the four common categories of stalkers and gives guidance on some practical steps for those who think they may be being stalked

Glad you were alright. That just goes to show that guys like that don't know what love is and they just have a rage in them. You were unlucky and lucky you did not love him. If you had agreed to marry him you would have regretted your decision because these kind of guys soon become women beaters if they don't show themselves right away @Hatley

It would be frightening to be a victim of stalking, though I know that women are far more likely to be victims.

Why would he got restraining order against you when he's the one that stalk you?

Because I defended myself and pushed him away from him. He dramatized it.

Good! So you were not hurt and you went on with your life. I was hurt and the person was not arrested. But I refused to let him win. It was bad enough I have handicapps from that happening, but I went on with my life. Oh sure I have PTSD and I have some fears sure....... I do not like being by myself or in the dark and my back to the door or window. I jump at noises if I am alone at night.I need to have the TV on so I do not feel so alone, But I go one with life. I got married, had another child, worked, have friends.

@AbbyGreenhill .....Yes, he couldn't get out and get started in life due to his mental issues. One more story that affirms my feeling that kids need to be evaluated early in life. Back when that guy in Arizona went into that theater and killed all those people. His mom even admitted he had issues early on and she didn't do anything. Parents need to be responsible. They are around the child and if there is something weird going on they need to be evaluated. It would save a lot of this gong on. If they are medicated or counselled early then they don't have time to build on these maniacal thoughts and delve into this horrible behavior. They need to get some help early on.

I was staked by a neighbor, she was crazy, this woman copied everything I did, hair color changes, clothes, everything. Finally I moved and got a restraining order against her.

When I hear of someone being stalked either by someone they know or don't know, it scares the crap out of me. I cannot believe that the authorities don't take it as seriously as they should. I have heard of people getting restraining orders on a particular person only to break them because they "made up" with the person. What the flipper? This person's actions don't change just because you make up with them. I hope that you are safe from your ex now.

I watched that last night, I was attacked in 1985 and the person was never arrested, even tho the police knew where he was. instead they arrested someone else that was innocent. I cleared that person and he was released. However I do not understand I very much do feel that there should be a law that a person should be arrested before they hurt the person they are stalking especially when stalking is illegal. What I do not understand in that show was two things, one, first they said it is very dangerous if you use the internet and social media that is how you get stalkers.......then the one lady who was a lawyer said that she did not use any social media followed by saying that she has not put a pic of her son on her Facebook........ummmmm didn't she just say that she did not use social media? Ok, when I was attacked and many other people before me had stalkers before the internet came about! Also the one person said that the person that was stalking her had been arrested, but she does not communicate with people. Really? this person just scared her was arrested he did not almost kill her and not get arrested.

@celticeagle Yes, my handicapps and PTSD do cause some impact to the past 32 years of my life. I have to deal with it everyday because I was physically harmed and some of those things have gotten worse. But I do not dwell on it and let in mess up my life.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I think you misunderstood what the lawyer said. My understanding was that the experience had put her off the social media. You can go back and listen to it again if you wish. There was a part of the show that told how the experience these women had impacted the rest of their lives. They tended to go back and forth so it was rather confusing. Like they did the first and second hours separately. Not sure.

I was seeing a man for a very short time...it only took me a short time to figure out that he was a creep...but he stalked me after the break up for months. Next thing I know, he's seeing my big boss at work! I had to pull her to the side and tell her my concerns about him. I felt so bad for her.

I'm the 1 in that statistic of 16 men. Seriously speaking, being stalked is no fun at all. I was followed by this girl that I dated once. I had to talk to her friends for here to stop following me around and sending me text messages.

@AbbyGreenhill I know a few stalkees - I worked with a lad who was arrested for stalking too which was a big surprise when it happened - he actually tried to burn a girl's house down with her inside it when she found a new boyfriend even after being ordered to stay away from her by the police and courts - I never suspected him until he hit the news

@arthurchappell You never know. The guy I had the problem with was mad - every day when I came home from work he was waiting in his van by the mailbox, knowing I would go there to get mail first. Every time I looked out the window he was driving thru the condo complex where I lived. He went to my pool.....since the lifeguards knew him from being with me they let him in....this went on for months. He told mutual friends he would kill me if he got his hands on me. Finally he met someone and left me the heck alone!

I have been lucky. Never stalked. I guess now I could say I am glad to be working from home on my PC so I am not out so very often. That is certainly scary. Hope that laws will be changed to protect.

They are literally sick. Kids need to be evaluated early. Parents don't seem to care and this is the out comes many times.
