Which was your first money making site?

I was talking to someone here who remembered me from a Q & A site called WebAnswers. It's not around anymore but it was the first site I ever earned money from. I've come a long way since then but thinking about it brought back pleasant memories of answering questions there and being one of the regular members. Which was your first earning site and is it still around?

Though I had joined more than one earlier I got my first real money from Bubblews. Now, it is no more but it lives in the memory of many

It certainly does. I was always paid although many weren't. I loved it when I first joined and there were many people that I already knew from other sites there too.

I never belonged to that site. I vaguely remember belonging to a site called Tekkler (I think) but I never earned anything and then it closed.

@sprite1950 Squidoo paid through the sales you made through the links you posted to Amazon products. You could earn pretty good money if you listed interesting items that people bought.

It seems it was the first site for many although I didn't use it the first time around. Did you stay when it stopped paying?

My first sites were Upwork and Onehourtranslation. I'm very much active on both sites.

I've heard of Upwork but not Onehourtranslation. I've always though translation sites look difficult.

@Montecristodog It's the same. Although we have a UK site the opportunities are not as good as for the US but they set the goals the same so it's hard to reach them.

@sprite1950 I am sorry to hear that. You might try Swagbucks. They have a good program to make some money especially with your cell phone.

I started my online writing life at Squidoo in April 2009, and I loved it. It paid me consistently. I was sorry when it closed, but it was already changing a lot by then and not as much fun as it had been. It was never the same after they closed RocketMoms. I was already at HubPages by the time Squidoo closed so when my lenses transferred into a separate account, I had two accounts -- my original and my Squidoo transfer. I found out about myLot after I joined Gather, which I heard about from Squidoo friends. Now Gather is also gone. After that came Bubblews, and most of us know what happened to that. More recently I joined Literacy Base, Blog Bourne, and Niume. I'm only really active on Niume. With six of my own blogs to keep up with, there's just not enough time for all these other sites.

@bagarad I've heard a lot of negative feedback about Niume. People say it is not paying very well now although I don't belong to it.

@sprite1950 I come and go there like I come here. I don't expect much there, but enjoy being able to share several photos in one post without having to write a long blog post. I enjoy this more, though, for the interaction.

Technically my first earning site was a site called Themestream, way back in 2001. I say technically because I never got paid - the site shut down soon after I joined and, as is so often the case, members weren't paid what they were owed. I'm not sure which was the first site that actually paid me but it was a microstock site at which I sell my photos. I still belong to several though I haven't been active at any of them for a few years. However they do bring in a little passive income from time to time.

@Gina145 Mine was also a cricket match, the ODI final in between India and Australia 2003. I replaced Damien Martin who was injured and had not played previous matches by Yuvraj Singh of India. Damien scored 92 while Yuvraj made only 22. I was right on top if I had finished all my substitution but I had left one and I used that and lost the first position. I had started ESPN STAR SPORTS in 2001 when it started online team building.

Technically mine was ESPN Star Sports. I could have won $15000 in 2001 but for a single mistake. I ended up at 29th spot and got only a sports watch of my choice worth $10 I brought in a wrong player and the one I replaced did the best in that particular match, the final.

@suni51 Ouch, that must have really hurt. It wasn't online but I participated in something similar involving one of the cricket world cups and won a coat for my effort. I'm sure I made more than one mistake though.

I first made money on the net with a writing site called Helium. It is long gone but it taught me a lot when I wrote there. I learned many things about writing and other's writing. It was quite an experience.

@akalinus Why do they have to change things when they are working ok? If it's not broken then why fix it? I think this happens on a lot of sites.

@sprite1950 It had some very good years. We called them the glory years. Then, things changed. They created a new website with a different format and things went downhill from there.

@HazySue i didn't like HubPages. I got caught up in a heated discussion there about Bubblews and the people there accused me of being in league with Arvind. It was all quite ridiculous but it put me off the site.

I remember that site! I never earned from it though. The first site I ever earned on was either Freeride (which is no longer around) or MyPoints (which is still around). This was back in 1998 or so. I only earned gift cards, and PayPal wasn't quite a thing yet.
