~The Police Were Called~

Good morning everyone. We had a crazy night here last night. I was babysitting 4 children. Their all siblings and their 13, 12, 4 & 2 years old. The older ones were more helpful than anything. Anyway, the older two boys have phones that their mother allowed them to bring here. They let the 2 yr old play on it. He called the police and they came to my house. It was not a nice officer at all. I apologized for the boy calling. The officer asked the older boy some questions and then looks at me and asked are you on any medication? I said what no why? He said your pupils are dilated. I said I'm exhausted with having a newborn and stressed to the max if either of those causes that. If only he knew me....I'm the woman who hates even taking advil!! I HATE medicine! I wish he would've tested me for drugs because he would have looked like a FOOL! He talked down to me like I'm a piece of crap. I didn't like him at all. Then he said he needed to come inside and make sure everyone's ok. He did and he saw everyone was fine so he left. With this happening my husband said he prefers that I don't babysit anymore for a long time until things cool down. He said we don't need social workers here trying to harrass us. I don't like not babysitting but I know it's best for now... Wow ONE phone call can change everything! Isn't that crazy?!? If I can't babysit that means I have to get a job outside the home when my husband gets off work at night. Gosh life stinks sometimes...

I am sorry to hear that happened to you. It is scary how quickly everything can change. It was not right how that police officer treated you. There are good officers and there are ones that aren't so good. You don't needed that stress in your life right. I agree with hubby I think you would take a break for a bit. If social workers become involved in your life then your life can become a living nightmare.

@Happy2beme Thank you. It wasn't a good evening at all. =( I don't like police officers at all, I have never had a good experience with any. Yeah that means I will have to get an evening job. =( Which I really hate but that's life I guess...

@LovingMyBabies I know how you feel I have had the same experience with different officers. It is never good. I hate to think of you going out of the home to work but I understand you need the money to live. I think the mistake was in taking the older children but you know that now. I hope nothing more comes of all that. Things will all work out. You are emotionally and physically exhausted you need your rest.

I am so sorry you had to go through that. Your husband is right, you need to relax now that you have a new baby. Stop babysitting for a while, you can always start again when your baby is a bit older.

@LadyDuck Thanks. Without babysitting I will have to get a job outside the home. That's what I really didn't want. I love being home with my children. One phone call changed my life in a really bad way. =(

Oh my gosh, sorry you went through all that . . . well that certainly was uncalled for. Some cops try to exercise their powers a little too far. A little one accidentally made an emergency call - that is all, sheesh. Taking a break from babysitting might be good for now . . . you can always go back to it.

That cop sounded a little rude. It's too bad that happened. I understand how you feel about babysitting and I can see your husbands point. Sometimes you do what you have to do and if you have to babysit you will probably have to set some pretty stringent rules with those kids with the cell phones. I wish you luck with all of this.

@HazySue He was very rude! Yeah I think for now if I do babysit it will only be the 2 children I have watched for months now. I feel safe watching them but no one else or new.

I am sorry that happened. My great nephew and his little cousin did that once. Luckily, the police didn't actually come, it got sorted out over the phone. How unfortunate the officer was unpleasant. It was his chance to build relationships with all those children. Since you like dogs, check out . Some one on another site I use claims they make $1,000 per month dog sitting. I signed up with them but haven't actually found any clients close to me yet. But I know it is a legitimate site. My friend used to dogsit at her house. She found a few clients by putting notices on community bulletin boards and then she kept getting more just by word of mouth. I liked the idea of dogvacay as I can just put unavailable on the calendar and know they can keep searching the site for another dogsitter.
When you're on vacation, give your pup a stay in a real home. Bookings include premium insurance, 24/7 customer support, and belly rubs.

@paigea Yeah he was not nice at all. It upset me a lot. I wish I could dog sit but my one dog doesn't get along with other dogs. =( I can't take the chance of a dog fight breaking out here.

@LovingMyBabies That is a concern. I didn't consider it until our old dog passed away. He would not have been able to handle other dogs visiting.

I can see where he might have been concerned but he could have been much nicer. It is crazy. He must have had some weird situations to make him that way. I've had all kinds of cops come here. It's a pick of the draw you know. We've had some real stunners. Like the time the cop told me it was okay to beat your kid as long as you didn't leave any marks. Okay!.

The cop seems like a nasty person. We deal with that here in the city all the time. They think they are way above the law and get irritated easily. That's their job. They shouldn't grab an attitude. I would have taken his name and badge number and reported him. I would have never let that go.

Wow, I am sorry that happened. If only that kid had not accidentally called the police and the policeman had to be mean. I remember once, my younger son was fiddling with the phone and called 911 by mistake. The police came out and luckily my husband was home and he and my son talked to the Cop. I told my son how embarrassing it was for what he had done and he better apologize to the Cop. My husband made sure he did too. My son did apologize and luckily the Cop was pretty nice about it.

@LeaPea2417 The page is for all babysitters in my area to post on. I'm keeping that, I'm just not babysitting myself. Other sitters still need the page to post on.

Maybe the cop had a bad day and took it out on you. You had no idea that a two-year-old would call the cops. You are right, you don't want social workers at your house. You never know what their agenda might be.

My kids dialed 911 a few times. The police are supposed to come to the house to make sure things are fine, but no need to be accusatory. Perhaps with all your own kids, you should find something else to do for a job. You must be terribly stressed out.

Sorry to hear this happened. How rude of the officer I would have called the police station and turned him in for being rude even if he was trying to do his job. That sucks your husband don't want you babysitting for a while. I hope you had a nice long talk with the mother when she picked the kids up.

Yes it sucks some cops are buttheads. You could report him for his poor treatment and lack of respect for you. As for babysitting I think you shouldn't either but not because of what happened mostly because you have not had enough time to recover fully from having a baby and lack of rest is not good. Any how you can still make money and not have the stress of taking on extra children. Maybe try something else like selling things that you make or reselling used items. My wife does it and it can be surprisingly profitable. She loves it because she doesn't have to deal with a ton of people.

@LovingMyBabies Izzy sells everything from old gently used kids clothes to things we don't use that is just sitting collecting dust. She sells it for cheap for a few reasons a quick return on cash space and return customers. YouTube is her best friend. She goes on there to find tutorials when she wants to sell something that is broken. Like once we had a dryer that wouldn't dry the clothes it turned out to be 2 minute repair that cost nothing because he part was just covered in dust not allowing for a connection. She fixed it and sold it for $50 we had already replaced it with a new dryer. It is easier than it sounds. When your kids outgrow their clothes throw them in a trash bag and post them on craigslist. $10 for a bag of clothes. We were gifted 2 toaster ovens so we resold one for cost because it was NIB. For crafts if you know how to make basic kids curtains you can buy the material make them and sell them as well. You can do it!
