How many knew this? This is all news to me, and I personally Love eating Watermelon. It has a good source of Lycopene in it. Anything with Lycopene helps prevent Heart Disease. But what I wonder is how many have been told by their Doctors a Diabetic nurse to avoid this fruit? I look at it this way... I am Diabetic and personally most of the charts and such are major outdated. There are foods I can eat that might spike me and not affect you, and vice versa. What I am finding out and reading which most people do not teach or know about is all Sugar Free foods are actually not good for you. So many issues are actually less noticable when you stop eating those. So have you heard of this, and what is your take?

My mother-in-law and my grandma are both diabetics. I am very surprised to hear that the watermelon is good for them. As I personally think watermelon is sweet and the diabetics shall avoid it. Actually in the past I printed a list what food are good for the diabetics. But sometimes I will get confused since some say some food are good for them but some say differently.

Watermelon is natural sugar though, and many times these are the better things to eat because of this.

I didn't know that. I would think it would be good since it's fruit anyway.

The great part now in knowing it is good for people with Diabetes, is I can eat more now and not feel as guilty.

I would have thought even natural sugars such as are found in fruits would be less than desirable.

There are foods out there that the natural sugars are way better because they most of the time do not stick in your system and affect you later.

I have heard it was good but it could spike sugars if one is a diabetic. I love watermelon. It is my go to fruit in the summer time.

I don't know if anyone told my mother that (she was diabetic) but she did enjoy a slice now and then. The only adverse effect (if that) it had on her was it made her want to pee more.

I did read that the sugar free foods are not good to consume. Once I ate delicious looking cookies from Walmart when I needed a quick snack. They were sugar free and I just thought it meant they didn't have sugar. Well in place of the sugar they used maltodextrin or something like that and it made me really sick. From what I looked up after that I guess you can only eat tiny amounts of it or it can make you sick. Better to just eat foods that are neutrally sugar free. And from what you write people who are diabetic need to just monitor themselves closely to see what elevates their levels as it isn't the same reactions for everyone.

That's good to know I also love eating watermelons. Good it has lycopene. I think it's sweet so doctors don't recommend it

Most doctors do not know the answers or stick with the answers from like the 90s at earliest. Even most of the Diabetic nutritionists you talk with. I feel they need to update themselves as much as everyone else to deternine what is really best to advise anymore.

I am a diabetic. The doctors always told me to stay away from all fruits, watermelon being one of the main ones. I decided to do my own research. First of all, it is a mistake to lump all diabetics into one cookie cutter mold. We should be treated individually. For instance, stress will affect my glucose levels more so than sugar. I have learned, too, that carbs are more dangerous than sugar. I have eaten fruit for years. I love watermelon and eat it as often as I can and it never negatively affects my sugar. Secondly, those foods that affect sugar levels are different for each diabetic. I can eat pasta where my dad can not. He can eat potatoes in moderation, but they will run my levels up fast. Thirdly, you are right about sugar free foods. Some of them are very unhealthy.
