grumpy mcgrump

Mr McGrump {Grumpy to his mates} is a bus driver. His favourite thing in the whole wide world is to grumble about something. It might be a passenger. It could be a fellow bus driver blocking a roundabout. It might even be the speedy undercover police car flashing its blue lights. He will definitely grumble about the girl running across the road on the green man, when the traffic lights are red for him. He second favourite thing in the whole wide world is to play a game. The game is called, I'm allowed to fit fifty-two standing passengers on this bus, so that's what's going to happen. He forgets that people need to get off the bus at various stops, and that the bus doesn't just go from A to B, and he also forgets that we need to breathe. Packing us in like sardines is not conducive to breathing. He snaps at passengers, or potential passengers, who are simply asking him a question. He rarely smiles, except at other drivers. He's a right misery guts. There's a poster up on the buses at the moment asking passengers to nominate their favourite driver for an award. I don't think he wants to win.

I am pretty sure he doesn't want to win. Suggest to the bus company that they need to start a mystery shopping program. You have inspired me to rewrite a post I did for Bubblews about grumps.

I have a feeling that they do use 'mystery shoppers' on the buses sometimes, but I may be wrong. If not, then yes, they definitely need to start!

@Poppylicious have learned that just about every industry and service is mystery shopped. But the results seem to vary.

Who knows, maybe he wants to win but I think it will be hard for him to win. Maybe they should let him win, he'll probably going to be less grumpy. Or not.

@poppylicious I complained to an inspector once about a bus driver's attitude to LOLs (little old ladies). The inspector was even grumpier.

I complained once about a driver who had an argument with a passenger, when the passenger was definitely in the right. The bus company said they spoke to the driver and believed what he said, which was the opposite to what I said. Like any company, they stick together when the chips are down.

There is a school for them, you know:
Bob Newhart's 'Bus Driver Training' skit from his Button Down Comedy stand-up show. This video was recorded in 1995, but I believe it was originally found on...

That was funny! Particularly the door slamming shut in the face ... that happens so often!

@pgntwo I didn't realise before, but he's the chap who is occasionally on The Big Bang Theory? He's very funny on that.

Possibly, but this wasn't just one journey. I had him twice this week, on different days. Otherwise I'd be inclined to agree with you.
