I am afraid of riding an Airplane. I never experienced it. I think I am scared because of the feeling of you are up and if something happen you cannot just get out of the vehicle. Or maybe because I have fear of heights and closed space. I don't like thinking I am above and it is too high for me to jump. Also, some hijacking really scared me. Please tell me why I should not be afraid to ride an Airplane.

Don't be afraid. We can't really see the ground below unless you take a window seat. The space is not as small as you think. Think of it as a bus. The only difference is they're on the air and have pretty people serving you food.

Thinking that I am in the air makes me like dying. I really don't understand how coward I am.

@prinzcy thank you sissy. Sometimes I think I am, but yes I know I am not the only one experiencing this kind of fear.

@grecychunny26 you're not a coward, that type of phobia does exist and pretty normal.

You have a 1 in a 4.7 million chance of dying while you are aboard a commercial flight. Even with airlines with a worse record, it is still 1 in a 2 million chance. In fact 2016 is the second safest year in flying an aircraft - second least aircraft accidents and crashes.

@allen0187 I will take note of that but the number of deaths all around the world still freaks me.

I agree. I flew several times last year and while there were some challenging experiences with turbulence, I still managed to reach my destinations. Go ahead, experience it. Statistically, it's the safest way to travel.

@grecychunny26 It is a terrifying experience, but a totally safe one. I am always afraid but I don't let it stop me. Just don't over think it.

Yes, that is true, I need to stop overthinking because it will not get me to my destination.

I am 56 and have never flown. I am not sure how I would cope with air travel. I have read, however, that statistically you are much less likely to be involved in an accident in a plane than with other forms of transport.

Yes, I am not the only one. I never experienced flying that is why I am wondering and I don't understand why I am panicking.

Flying can be a scary experience, and Yes, if their ever was a problem it would be a scary situation. But for one, I enjoy flying. It is a Great way to be able to get somewhere fast. I have flown to many places I would never want to ride in a car too. There is such thing as Amtrak here in the US but even there it can take forever.

I am not afraid of the flight. Actually it is the safest transportation way. In fact you can try to relax yourself and the time will pass by soon when you are in the airplane. You can read or watch a movie in the plane. Today the plane has more entertainments. Besides, you can enjoy your meal in the plane. Or you can have a sleep. Then you will realize soon you will arrive at the destination

How about the feeling of getting up. The airplane is slanting until it reach the above and then how is the feeling getting down. Is it like a rollercoaster ride?I mean getting up and down.

@grecychunny26 Oh... It is far different than a rollercoaster. It is not exciting when you are in the airplane. You don't have a strong feeling about it when it gets up and down. Besides, you can't see a lot of outside and you will not feel anything at all.

I think it is normal to have certain fears. Pray a lot!

Yes, I know it is normal to fear it. what is not normal is why I am scared when I haven't even experienced it. I guess I am not afraid of the airplane, but of feeling that I am up and I can't get out when I need to get out.

Such things are so rare that you really must have the worst possible luck to get in such planes. We are more likely to die from traffic accidents than air accidents.
• Philippines

and to think there will be traffic above, in the air, that was the worst lol. I am afraid of the feeling getting up.

@grecychunny26 Have you ever taken a lift in a high rise building? If no, then I can understand your fear. If you have, then taking airplane is no big deal. It is the same sensation, though you can see the trees moving very fast and then you are in the air. It is like a combination of being in a lift and in a speeding train.

I'm afraid on my first ride on airplane but what calms me are the cute little children we have inside the plane. I know God will protect them and we will all be safe in the plane. I look at the good looking stewardess or crews and I admire them for that is their job to ride a plane everyday.

I hope to feel the same way. I never been inside the airplane that is why I am thinking what would it be like.

Who wouldn't get scared of Hijacking? specially after the events of 9/11. For some reason I've also developed the fear of heights. I remember going to my cousin's apartment before and it was on the 28th, I was so scared being on the balcony. Well, remember to pray every now and then.

I can't be on a tallest building bro. I have fear of heights too. I am even afraid of elevator. When the elevator is moving up fast, I think my head will going to explode. It is really frightening.

Try to ride an airplane with someone you trust, it may ease your fear. Travel with your boyfriend. Sometimes we have to ride an airplane because it's the fastest way to reach our destination and sometimes, it's the only way. You have to overcome your fear.

Maybe I will ride it when it is really needed, like migrating to other country and never come back to the original country.
