Simple Pleasures

In a comment on a photo of me as a child with one of my pet sheep. Fiacre Banks (@xFiacre) remarked that playing with pet lambs might be as much or more fun than playing on computers. When I came across this photo of my mother and sister, it reminded me how simple pleasures can be such a lot of joy. My Mum is well into her 90s in this photo but they are both just enjoying the moment and each other's company. Although not too crash hot photographically (I took it, not Vince) it is one of my favourites of my Mum and sister. Do you have simple pleasures you enjoy from time to time? Or maybe often?

Love the pic, my simple pleasure (of the many) is plugging in my earbuds and cranking the music.

There have been many days where I have put my earbuds in and then put my iPod on shuffle and just jam to tunes all day! Or I'll put on Pandora or Spotify and just let the music take me away somewhere far away!

This is YOUR sister not your mothers correct? What a lovely photo. It's just another proof that you are in charge of your own health and happiness. There are many others who couldn't be so active at that age your mother.

Mum was lucky to have good health almost up to the day she passed away. That is my Mum on the left and my sister on the right.

@JudyEv That's wonderful to hear! She was able to enjoy all of her years then. Thanks for the clarification. I thought it must be your sister but my brain was a bit scambled at the moment and I wanted to be sure!

I also love outdoors activities with my husband much more than the computer. Walking, playing bowl or badminton, even reading a book while enjoying a soft music.

I have a feeling that part of the reason your mum has made it well into her 90's is that she took the time to enjoy the simple things in life. We don't realize how important it is for our health and well being to simply slow down sometimes and enjoy the moment. And even as adults, we need a little play time to keep ourselves feeling young!

@moffittjc There is a promotion going on here called ABC - Act meaning get out and get active, Belong to social clubs or groups and Commit to volunteer projects. I think it is geared more towards mental health. It would work to keep ageing at bay too.

A young family at this camping site moved from a big, noisy campsite with lots of activities for kids to this lovely quiet one with a little creek rippling over stones. She says that's all they need and I think she might be right, At school, children's lives can be very structured and it's nice if they can be free to make their own pleasures sometimes.

@JudyEv Exactly.Mother Nature has a treasure of wonders.Whenever I see the sky covered with dark black clouds I spontaneously begin humming verses from the great Sanskrit epic "Meghdoot"by the great Kalidas. My friends tease me saying I am a child of 29.

@judyev Does a nice cup of Earl Grey tea count? Walking along the edge of a long, empty beach on a sunny day with the waves washing around my ankles. And it's all free!!

@JudyEv When I lived in the bush in Africa I never worried about nasties, I grew up with Malawian kids and just seemed to instinctively gain a sort of bush savvy that my parents didn't have. Now however I'd be a nightmare in the bush, imagining snakes everywhere.

Definitely a cup of tea counts. And walking along the beach too. Free is very, very good. Walking in the bush watching out for snakes and crocodiles is good too. I was bitten on the toe by a bull-ant today. It is itchy, swollen and painful. Best you don't come to Australia.

They look like they are having such fun. I love the swings and playing. I don't do it nearly as often as I would like. I think now that the parks will be open soon, it's time to go have some old fashioned fun.

I enjoy spending time with my friends, on sunny Sundays, we go for long walks in the city and then find a nice place with a view to sit and enjoy our coffee. I am trying to take pleasure of every moment, even at work sometimes. It is important to appreciate what we have and value the people in our lives. You have capture the joy in the moment in the picture, I love the contrast of colors too!

Some of our swings wouldn't take adults either but these were nice strong ones. In one town there is an adults' playground and the slide is about 12 feet off the ground.
