Only two Okra's Left

Philippines
March 6, 2017 5:20am CST
Two to three months ago I've planted over more than eight seeds of Okra. For almost two months I've tried to keep them alive as much as possible. Because the last batch of Okra's died in the pot. I thought they're going to make it. Until Mom replanted the other two and died later and me, replanted the okra's sister in law gave me last month, which died too. Unfortunately this time it's infestation of ants that slowly and literally killed most of my okra's. Now, while observing the survivors, they seemed to be growing some sort of pods. But I noticed they're still too small to be bearing fruits.

It's probably my fault too because a few weeks back i put all the rotten mangoes in their area hoping to leave my okras alone. @ShifaLk

I have not much luck when I repot so I just spread the seeds on the soil and when they sprout I just let them grow on that same place. Sometimes they are crowded but that is better than dying.

We don't have that much space when it comes to soil unlike before @salonga but I hope that they grew constantly. This time two survived.

I like okras and they are not available in our country, I would like to try to plant them this year and see if I am lucky.

In that case, I can say I'm a better okra gardener because our seedlings grow fast and we even tasted the fruit. Now, the fruits are ripen and waiting for some days before harvesting the seeds and planting them again.

Is there no way to get rid of the ants?

I put powder over there that supposed to kill ants and used detergent soap after my last laundry @jstory07. Probably that too killed my okra's because they were too close to the ants.

@Letranknight2015 Maybe the powder damaged the okra too. Unfortunate situation

@tzwrites probably the detergent soap.

Okra must be tricky. Even my mother in law, who can grow most things, can't keep an okra plant alive.

It's understandable since you got four seasons over there @nonersays not sure if they can even survive snow.

hmmm, and that is the only plant that i can grow, even unattended. i wonder why your okra did not survive;probably because of those ants?

Yeah, the ants slowly killed them @ridingbet but there are other insects out there too.
