Mouse Pads - Are people still using them?

I have noticed that mouse pads are still widely available. Are people still buying and using them? I have not seen a mouse pad being used by friends, family, colleagues, customers, etc. for years now. 99.99% of computer users are using optical mice and there is no need for a mouse pad in my opinion. Perhaps I am missing something and should be using a mouse pad?! Please enlighten me.

I still have a desktop that I like to use and have a mouse pad. Speaking of mice, I got my niece a pink mouse that looks like a sports car. The headlights even light up. She uses it at her tax preparation business.

@Paljas I still find it easier to use the mouse on that surface.

I think thats up to you. I dont have a desktop computer at homr - only a laptop. I was debating on getting a mouse though. Those laptop mouses are difficult to use!

I use optical mouse with my laptop. Much easier and faster, but no mouse pad - just gets in my way!

I still use my mousepad for my optical mouse because it glides better.
