I Can Listen To This All Day

It is weird how we can grow tired of something so quick and other times we can play the crap out of something before we say, "alright, I finally had my fill." We literally can beat a song down or what I like to say, "kill it." Well, here is another one of those songs. The funny thing, it is a cover song on top of it. That is a rare feat in itself. The cover track itself is a rare find. Fat Wreck Chords produced a series of singles in April 2001 that only was on the market to February 2002 called "7- inch series." Making the series of songs hard to find. Me First And The Gimme Gimmes were one of those bands that put out a single for the album. I did a post of how they only do covers, but with a twist. They take different songs from different genres of music and make them in punk rock versions. This is a version of Steve Goodman's "City Of New Orleans." It was originally released in 1975 and is an old time folk song. It was recorded by Arlo Guthrie and Willie Nelson. So you know, Me First And The Gimme Gimmes had to bring their A game on this one or they would have been crucified. I was reading how this band was never supposed to make it since they only do cover songs. Punk rock cover songs at that, which is not a very popular music. After this one, it is not surprising to see why so many like the band and their covers. This is straight up awesome and is the polar opposite of Steve Goodman's version.Which brings well deserved life back to the song. This song will not be rare anymore after April 7th of this year. It is scheduled to come out on the band's new record titled "Rake It In: The Greatestest Hits." I love every second of it. I will probably be listening to it on and off all day.
City Of New Orleans comes from The Gimmes upcoming hit album - Rake It In: The Greatestest Hits. Order here: http://www.fatwreck.com/record/detail/975 Tour: ...
