Trying new recipes

While I fell way short in February for my fitness and budget goals I did manage to hit my "try new recipes" goals, which is 2 per month.  Both of them I was not thrilled with.  One was for Thai Peanut Chicken which I love in a restaurant but didn't love in this recipe.  At least it was easy enough to make.  The other one was for cheeseburger soup - which I have had in a restaurant and loved.  My attempts at home have not been as successful.  This recipe called for hashbrown potatoes which I made in the usual (pan and oil) way before adding.  Maybe that was a mistake.  It wasn't terrible, it was edible, but it just didn't taste too good either. It was more like a hotdish (or casserole depending on where you live), and the flavor was alright.  So I may try again with that one.  While writing about recipes I wonder what MyLot's stance on sharing recipes is. I know sometimes it's frowned on because the recipe may not be the work of the person who posted it, so with that in mind I would only share recipes that I have created.  Though the thing is there, - my recipes are usually modified off of existing recipes. What are some of your favorite things to make?

I enjoy cooking Mediterranean recipes and traditional food. I usually find some recipes online and keep some tips from each one of them. I rarely follow a recipe 100% and I prefer the healthy choices. It usually comes out tasty, at least people who have tried usually say that they like my cooking.

Oh I would love to be able to cook Mediterranean. Does Curry count? I tried to make it twice. First time was pretty good , second time was very bad. :-)

@FayeHazel I think that curry is an indian recipe, we cook with many vegetables, fresh ingredients and herbs.

Whatever myLot's rules are, I am sure no one wants you to post your failed recipes. That's definitely a recipe for disaster.

I tend to go back to my same handful of favorites because I know they turn out. :-)

Trial by error, my friend. I like to try new recipes and experiment as well, whether crockpot or regular cooking. I don't have any favorite things to make lately.

@FayeHazel Usually yes, but sometimes I just leave a recipe lying around on the bench for him to find all by himself!

Nothing exciting - most of what I do now is the very healthy stuff.

I don't know what the rule is here about recipes--I was just thinking about trying something new on my way home this morning--asian fusion --bean threads, tofu, cilantro, shredded cabbage, a little garlic chili sauce, lime juice and a little olive oil--for a salad???? I like to make up things and try them out--maybe add some peanuts??

@FayeHazel I haven't tried it yet, but I think I will try it this week sometime--tofu is one of those foods that needs a sauce or flavoring of some kind. It is really bland otherwise--but I am a long time vegetarian--and eat a lot of tofu as a protein

@divalounger Oh nice --I know there are a lot of meat substitutes out there. Some of them I like better than meat....

Oh that salad sounds good. Did you end up making it? How did you like it? Those flavors sound like they would go well together. Except I don't know what tofu is like, don't think I've tried it.

Cheesburger soup?? How is that even possible? It does state clearly in the Guidelines that recipes are not allowed.

Ah. That's what I thought about sharing recipes. Thanks for the head's up. Oh cheeseburger soup? As I've had it is like a cheese soup, with ground beef and bacon in it. Also some mix of grill spices. One place I had it served it with diced pickles to be placed on top. That was surprisingly tasty
