Usually, a big city like Minneapolis is built on lots of acreage of solid ground. However, I was surprised to learn that there are 22 lakes in the city limits of Minneapolis. Minnesota is often called “the land of 10,000 lakes.” However, there are actually 11,842 lakes that are over 10 acres and if you would count all the lakes over 2.5 acres, the number would be 21,871. That’s a LOT of lakes for one state. I would think that there would never be a water shortage in Minnesota, but the research I read, showed that over 3,000 lakes there had dried up. Do you live near a lake? I do. We have several in this county.

The photo doesn't look exotic for me. It could show a sight in the Alps in Austria or Switzerland.

@IreneVincent I know the name Lake Tahoe. I wonder why. Considering how many lakes there are in the USA why should I have read or heard about this lake? Is it famous for anything? Does it have a superlative of any kind?

@MALUSE Lake Tahoe is the second deepest lake in the USA, following Oregon's Crater Lake. About two-thirds of the shoreline is in California and the rest of the shoreline is in Nevada. We stayed at a hotel right on the border. In fact we could see the sign from our hotel room window that said "Welcome to California" on the road just a few feet from the hotel. 63 tributaries run into Lake Tahoe and the Truckee River is the lakes only outlet While we were there, we rode rafts down the Truckee River and our raft overturned and we had to be rescued. It was not a good day. Snow skiing resorts are everywhere around the lake and LARGE casinos feed the economy. This lake is a MAJOR tourist attraction.

The lake in this photo is Lake Tahoe. It's a beautiful lake that I have visited several years ago. Every thing is beautiful in Switzerland and Austria and in Germany too. I have been there too. The earth has many beautiful lakes, there is no doubt about that.

No nearby lake here. Los Angeles is actually a port city on the Pacific.

The Pacific coast is beautiful too. The earth is full of beautiful places and it would be much more beautiful if humans took better care of it. Littering disgusts me. I noticed the litter this morning on the road to the nursing home. WHY? Littering doesn't make any sense to me at all.

I was born in Minneapolis and my favorite lake was Lake of the Isles. I remember it was known as the land of the lakes and yes there are many there.
