Musical Stamps

Music stamps

The Royal Mail have been issuing a series of stamps based on modern British music. I got myself a first day cover of David Bowie stamps, which arrived yesterday. Last year I got the Pink Floyd stamps. I am planning to put them in a frame for display. I already have the cat stamps issued in 1995, and franked in Kits Green, on the wall. I don't actually collect stamps, but there are some that are rather attractive.

Our sons collected first day covers for a while and I encouraged it thinking it would be an investment by the time they were old(ish). But they are worth next to nothing now which is a bit disappointing. We might sell them at the car boot sale just to get them out of the house.

I think modern ones are printed off in the thousands. They are nice to look at, but it would be lucky to make them in investment

@Ronrybs That's true. It's like the mint. The new coins they keep putting out are a money-making racket. Stamps are much the same.

@JudyEv I only have one special edition coin and that was a Treasury issued £5, for the Royal Wedding of Charles and Diana... I think. No idea where that is

I suspect they are meant for collectors, but I doubt they'll worth a fortune anytime soon!

You are getting a really cool collection for someone that doesn't collect them

oh I love stamps like those! Years ago, I bought a set of John Lennon stamps. It's nice to have stamps like those as great memories of the music we love!

Collecting stamps was a hobby of mine when I was a teenager. The interest was a consequence of my pen pal activities where we exchange stamps with our foreign friends.
