Surprise Mail

Mail can be so boring sometimes. I don't get bills in the mail anymore, but I sure do get tons of advertising. So when something different arrives, it perks me up! Today I retrieved my mail and a small envelope was there from Michigan. I didn't think I knew anyone in Michigan who knew my address, so once I got back to my apartment, I ripped into it. And it put a smile on my face. I've been selling rubber stamps on ebay for a couple of years now, and through that little side business, I've met some nice people. Well, imagine my surprise when someone put a complaint through ebay about me because they didn't receive their stamp! I couldn't imagine what had happened, but later that very same day, I got an email from another customer in another state who said they had received the stamp by mistake. And she wanted to buy it from me. I explained my dilemma and asked if she could return it to me. I even sent her money to cover the return postage. And eventually, I did get the stamp back. Because of my blunder (some days my printer has a mind of its own), I sent the stamp to the original customer free of charge. I felt so bad about my mistake. Well, today I received a thank you card from her along with money to cover the purchase! Total surprise! It's so nice when we all try to do right by one another, isn't it? Suddenly, everything seems right with the world. We need to keep this kind of thing going! Claudia

Well that was nice. At work I make rubber stamps, one of my many jobs there.

I used to love rubber stamps so much! I would spend much of my day making cards and calendars and being as artsy as I could muster! But these days they take up so much room that I'm selling them off and sticking more to knitting. Do you work for a rubber stamp company?

@CRK109 our company does many things. We do rubber stamps, printing, all types of awards and signage, vinyl lettering , sandblasting and the list goes on and on. I make rubber stamps pretty much every day for people and businesses all over Atlantic Canada.

@Happy2BeMe Wow! That's pretty fascinating, isn't it? Are they easy to make? Is the rubber smell very awful?

That was lovely of her but then you tried hard to do the right thing too. Are you still selling stamps?

@CRK109 What sorts of stamps do people not like? These are for making cards and so on aren't they?

@JudyEv oh it's just a few specific ones that no one seems to like. One is a large Victorian fan with cherubs on it. I made a lot of cards with that one back in the day and they were great. But I guess the thrill is gone. I have some frame stamps that have been sitting forever. And anything with the word "God" on it seems to have a very small audience. It's really interesting to see what sells and what doesn't.

yes. I don't know how many more boxes of stamps I have in my closet, but I'm sure I'll be selling them for a while to come. Of course, I have some stamps that people seem to hate! I'll try those off and on for the rest of the year and if they don't sell I'll just toss them! lol

@CRK109 I've never sold anything on eBay. I just opened an Etsy store today....we'll see how it goes...hopefully by next week I'll be ready to promote it.

@Morleyhunt Oh I suspect you're going to do huge on etsy! I have a few friends who sell there and who do pretty well. What will you be selling? What's the name of your shop?

It still makes me smile to think about it. What a nice thing that was to do when she didn't have to! She completely made my day!

They are decorative rubber stamps that crafters use to make cards and calendars and other pieces of art. They come in all sizes and some have become real collector's items.

I always send my customers a thank you card for buying from me. Most don't seem to do that, so it's become a nice touch. I guess she decided I needed one back too!

Yes, play good things forward for sure. I think the majority of people are good and honest but that small percentage of evil people make it hard for the rest of us all the time

Yes, and they can color our lives so that everything stops. When that happens to me now, I keep reminding myself that they are the minority. I can't let them get to me.

Glad that all worked out, sometimes you get nothing but tales of woe from ebay and that has certainly coloured my thinking on it

I don't buy much from ebay, although I've only had good luck there. I enjoy selling because I'm an honest seller. I just sold an old Beatles' import to a guy who kept pushing my buttons, asking if I was trying to sell him a CDR instead of a CD. He finally did buy it and I had to laugh. He's getting an honest product but obviously he's been hurt a lot on ebay in the past. Makes me wonder why he keeps buying, you know?

@CRK109 Yes, while I've not been burned the I collect speclist board games and they can be rather expensive as they are fairly rare and I feel a bit dubious about spending that much on a game
