Did Hell Finally Freeze Over?

I can't believe I am sitting here in beautiful, sunny Florida, on the 16th of March, and it is 30 degrees out (-1 C). Did Hell finally freeze over? I cannot believe that our beautiful tropical paradise, that wonderful mecca of white sandy beaches and gently swaying palm trees that northerners and tourists by the millions flock to every year to escape the cold, has in essence become the cold. And during Spring Break nonetheless! Which then makes me realize, if it's that cold here, it must be even worse in other places. So, to all of you who have it much worse than we do here in Florida, I can empathize with you. At least we don't have snow to contend with! But don't forget, us Floridians go running like banshees to grab heavy jackets any time the temperature drops below 80 degrees (26 C), so 30 degrees is pretty bad to us! You know what I love best about snow? Not a damn thing! That's why I live in Florida! Stay warm out there my friends!

Hey, we are supposed to reach a high of 34 degrees up north here today. Granted we do have snow.. and it will probably be a while before it melts.. But I can deal with it because Spring is right around the corner... again.. I think.

This cold spell is a little surprising for us Floridians, because we were already thick in the middle of spring. Two days ago, we had highs of 87. Huge temperature swing in just a matter of days!

@minx267 I feel bad complaining about it, because I know you got it so much worse up there than we did down here in Florida. But us Floridians are wimps when it comes to cold weather, we freak out any time the temperature drops below 80 degrees! lol

Doesn't it still snow in Oregon? By the way, I love Colorado! My parents owned about 50 acres on a mountain in southern Colorado, near Alamosa. We always enjoyed spending summers there.

@velvet53 It's been slowly happening for many years, but it's been becoming more apparent over the last few years.

It's never more evident than here in Florida. We never get a winter any more, our hurricanes are more frequent and more intense, our summers hotter and wetter, and our coastal cities are flooding on a regular basis due to rising ocean levels.

Unfortunately, since where we live is in a tropical climate, most of us here don't have heavy jackets!

It's interesting, because when I was growing up in south Florida, it would routinely get cold in winter, and stay cold for most of the season. Now, thanks to global warming, south Florida hardly ever gets cold, and it's big news when it does!

@DianneN It didn't get that cold down in Miami, did it? By the way, it's already hot up here in Gainesville again. No one everyone keeps getting sick. Hot, then cold. Cold then hot. Rainy then sunny.

@moffittjc It's been cooler here the last three days. I feel badly for my son's mother in law, who is in Miami for a week or so.

Yes, prior to this blast of cold, it was hot here in Florida. I was already wearing shorts to work, and was already cursing the high humidity that we normally don't experience until summer.

I hope you are enjoying and taking full advantage of that beautiful weather! Normally, I would be bragging about our great weather too, but it looks like we were also a victim of this latest winter storm. That blizzard up north must have been really bad if it caused our temperatures to dip so much!

It's the law of compensation, we finally have beautiful warms day in March. The whole week has been sunny with a temperature around 20 C (68 F). It is unusual but we do not complain.

I think it's just human nature for us to complain about the weather. If it's too hot, we complain. If it's too cold, we complain. But glad to hear you are having some nice mild temperatures right now!

Right after this post, it turned ridiculously hot again (which is typical for Florida). We just got a nice little cold front that came down this week, just in time to cool things off for the weekend. It is beautiful outside right now! I wish Florida could stay this way all year long! And sorry to hear about your unwanted snow! Hopefully it will go away soon.

Our February was so hot that everybody was panicking that we were already in our summer weather pattern, which is not a good thing so early in the year. Probably a lot of people are relieved that it cooled back down. Our summers are already brutal enough, we don't need our spring to be so hot as well!

You know as well as I do here in Florida that we can get a cold snap this time of year after having spring like weather at least until Easter when it will get hot and we will wish for a cool (not cold) snap

The way I see it, I can 100% accurately predict when we'll get a polar vortex blast of cold each spring. I just circle the date on my calendar of when my kids have Spring Break from school. It's guaranteed to get cold the week they are on Spring Break. It happens every single year (including this year)! LOL

@moffittjc ~I use to live in Florida and prefer the white sandy beaches to snow. I use to say that snow was only good for two things, pictures and paintings. It's true that Floridians and anyone else living in a tropical climate are freezing when the thermometer hits the sixties. After living in a tropical climate, your body gets acclimated to the tropical climate and thins your blood.
