Pre-Op Appointment Today

March 16, 2017 12:44pm CST
I have to go to the hospital today for a pre-op appointment. My gallbladder surgery is Monday morning. I'll be honest, I'm pretty scared about the surgery. So there is a huge part of me that hopes there is some reason that I have to reschedule. I'm pretty congested today... so you know, there's that.... I just know that bad stuff happens. My 13 year old son died in his sleep without warning. So yeah, bad stuff happens. And my surgery scares me regardless of how routine it is.

My husband gets really anxious about surgery as well. His anxiety over the surgery is usually worse than the surgery itself. I think it's best when it's an emergency and you don't have much time to dwell on it, like his appendix was. He went in for feeling sick, and left without an appendix, but the level of freaking out before the surgery, holy cow!

@jillybean1222 Well, try not to think about it too much, but make sure you go and get it done. You'll feel a lot better afterwards!

exactly... if they would have just done it in the ER, it would be done now

I can understand why you feel anxious about it and that is very understandable. I am sure everything will be just fine and you will feel better soon. They may postpone it if you are not feeling well. Keep us posted.

I fully understand because there are no easy surgeries, it's always a surgery. I would not postpone if you can, once is done you will feel better.

@jillybean1222 I have been lucky, it's a long time that I will not experience anesthesia. My husband had two years ago, it's a lot better than in the past.

I can understand your fear, especially with what happened to your boy. I'll say a prayer that everything will go fine and that you'll feel much better after you recover.

It is normal to feel the way you do. Just indulge in it and do not fight it as time will take care of everything.

You'll be fine. Don't look for any reason to delay the operation or your fears will only get worse. Be sure Monday morning to ask exactly what will happen and, just as important, what you should expect to happen the next 7 days! And be sure to get a direct number you can call 24/7 just in case. Good luck.

A rock and a hard spot. That is what I call what you are feeling. You need it out but you`re scared. Have faith, pray and get it over with.
