Sewing my daughter curtains today

My daughter is at her cousin house for a few hours. I think she will be getting home around 4 pm. I thought while she is away I will get her curtains sewn. AllI have to do is cut them and hem the bottom. Her aunt bought them for her a few years ago but we could not put them up until the windows were replaced in my daughters room. Her windows still need to be finished on the inside but I was able to put up the curtain rods for now at least to hang her curtains. I do not feel like getting out the old confusing singer sewing machine in the closet so I will sew these by hand. I added a photo of what they look like. I will have to add a photo when they are hung up so you can see them fully. They are very pretty.

I also prefer to sew a hem by hand, it takes so little time.

I had to eat lunch but other then that I just finished one curtain panel. It takes me a very long time to sew by hand. It would be much faster with the sewing machine but I never can remember how to thread the thing and get the tension right etc.

@LadyDuck What I need to do is to look up an online manual and print it out to keep so the next time I want to use the machine it will remind me. Unfortunately it being so old I am not sure how easy it would be to find a manual for it. It is from the 70s I believe.

She thinks they are too girly. In the summer when I have more time with plan to take her to the fabric store and let her pick out what she likes and I will make her curtains. Then I will use these pretty ombre ones in my room as they will match my carpet perfectly.

@Shellyann36 I really am not sure what she will pick. She only wears dark clothes like gray and black. She doesn't like anything girly.

Well instead of being lighter on top and getting darker the further they go down they go from blue to white from left to right so they almost look striped when hung up. The photo doesn't show how pretty they are but you can get a pretty good idea.

It makes her room look much nicer. After I get the trim up in the summer I may have to rehem them a little shorter but I wanted to be sure they weren't too short.

@shaggin It is the most terrible feeling if you cut hems too short. They look lovely.

They are very long so I only took the upper half so you can get a pretty good idea of how they look. I had to make lunch and dinner but finished these around 8:30 and guess what... She thinks they are to girly lol

I made a few curtains for my house in the past but these I just cut and hemmed the bottom. It was very time consuming but didn't require much talent it was quite simple.

I never stitch. That is not my passion. Considering you never liked stitching and still produced what we see here, kudos to you.

Well what you see in the photo is the top of the curtains. I stitched the bottom hem haha. It was just to show what the design was that I posted a photo of the top of the curtains. They are long and we're hard to fit the whole curtain into a picture so I just did the top half.

I took a photo of them full length to show you. They are too long but hopefully once I get the trim up and the rods rehung then they will be the right length. If not I will rehem them.

I can sew some by hand but not professionally. My Mom was a big sewer when I was growing up. She used a Singer Sewing Machine and would sew clothes for herself , my sister and I.

That is how my mother was as well. She is much better then I am but she also had a lot more practice then I have. I don't like taking the time to sew much.

They look very pretty I would love to see them hanging. I gave my sewing machines away so If i had to do that I would take them to the town's seamstress.... call me lazy...

You say lazy but I don't think so. I hate sewing.Years back when my kids were babies I bought material and my mother sewed my kids curtains with it for their rooms. I'm too cheap to have a seamstress do the chore for me. Here's a photo of the curtains hung up. They are very long so I only took a photo of the top to show the color etc.

My mother made most all of the curtains in the house when we were kids as well. She did an excellent job. She worked as a seamstress in a factory for a few years when I was little. Some of the woman didn't know how to sew and we're taught on the job but my mother knew how before she started working there. She made outfits for us when we were young too.

@shaggin - I love that I know how to sew, not well, but I can a little. I hope it doesn't become more rare of a skill

Those are nice it is what my wife wants to use for the kids rooms when they are redone. She likes the ombre look for the kids reminds her of tye dye stuff from her time as a kid. The plan is to do their rooms the same so that they don't fight just different colors for his room she wants to do blues and for hers shades of pinks or purples the baby wants rainbow colors so her room will probably look like a rainbow exploded lol but we don't care if it makes her happy. Their mother is still making diy stuff from the couch parts.

I let my daughter choose what color she wanted her walls when we redid her room a few years ago. She chose a pretty blue. She has since changed a lot and prefers dark colors. She covers what she can of her walls in posters. She thinks these curtains are too girl so in the summer when I have more time I am going to take her to the fabric store and let her pick out what she likes and make her new curtains then I will use these in my bedroom as they will match really well with my old oriental carpet.
