Another Project on the Treadle

Yesterday I was out for most of the day but managed to finish my Easter Wallhanging. Every step but the hand finishing was done on my treadle sewing machine. That machine sews like a dream. I had the pattern picked out for my spring table runner but not the colours....yesterday I saw a banner that had the colours I wanted. Now it was just a matter of assembling the table runner. This morning it reached the point where this afternoon I will be able to quilt it and bind it. Fast easy projects are somethings so rewarding!

Do you ever sell any of your work?

@Morleyhunt good luck with your Etsy store. I'm sure you'll have lots of sales with your quilts. Can you give us the name?

I've just opened an etsy store and I'm hoping to sell some things. I'm a novice at that...I've done a craft sale before but only sold enough to pay for my table.

@Morleyhunt I need to work on the etsy store I made years ago, it mostly has Tony`s art on it.

The colors are great! They all complement each other so well. Sounds pretty much like a 2-day project to me. Will you be quilting on a machine or by hand?

This will be quilts by machine. I'm going to free motion a large stipple pattern and then bind it. Hopefully it will be finished before bed. Then I'll take a photo or two and list it on etsy.

Don't have to worry about that one becoming an UFO, huh? Looks very pretty. I saw a table runner in a Good Housekeeping magazine over fifteen years ago. They took table runners and made them into valances. It was something I always planned on doing one day even though I've no clue what I ever did with the instructions. I probably wouldn't make it into a table runner first, just use that type of size.

No danger of this one becoming a UFO. It's finished.

It's great that you are getting so much pleasure from the old treadly.

We had a moment last night when I wasn't so sure. The pedal disconnected and I had to figure out what had come apart. It's fixed agin and back to work.

That is a cool design and great pastel colors. I brought my sewing machine over here, but now it's already almost 2 pm so I really doubt I take the time I want and get it out and get that back sewn.

I finished the table runner. Tonight I have the princess so there won't be to much sewing creativity happening...but wait until tomorrow.

Is that difficult to make , my friend? Did you study doing that? That's a beautiful piece. I love the color combination , it's refreshing to the eyes.

It wasn't hard to make. There was a tutorial online and I followed step by step. I chose my own colours...I wanted it to be bright and springlike.

@SIMPLYD there was a tutorial for making the squares. I made my runner just a bit bigger than the one they showed us how to make.

@Morleyhunt Does this all just come to you before you begin a project, or were you planning all of this before retirement?

@Juliaacv I've planned to do a lot more quilting. I have a folder with many photos of quilts. This particular project was one I saw this last week. It was a tutorial offers by a conniekresin.com

It certainly looks like you are doing a great job. It is nice that you enjoy the treadle machine this much.

@Morleyhunt My g'mother and her sisters would never use anything that does something automatically and thinking they are right.

@PatZAnthony the issues with the treadle machine were its lack of use. The finish on the bed of the machine had deteriorated and it was like trying to slide fabric across rough sandpaper....hubby removed the old finish and refinished it. .....then the leather belt had deteriorated and broke off an inch at a time....I had a spare belt which I lubricated well before we could use it. Then the machine siezed up because of 60 years of accumulated gunk....the service man cleaned it for me. Once I started using it the foot pedal fell off....again I crawled under the machine so I could find the pin that held the mechanism together. Sewing was the easy part.

I've always liked how much control I have when using the trade machine. This one sews like a dream (once I had the bugs worked out). I loved finding that the feed dogs dropped so I could try free motion quilting.

That looks lovely, nice cheery colours. I grew up with a treadle sewing machine and we still have it. I got an electric sewing machine for my 16th birthday which did a range of different stitches and I used that a lot and still do, but my Dad continued to use the treadle machine and now I have it and can't bear to part with it.

It's nice to make the decorations yourself rather than spend money on stuff in the store, plus there is the added sense of satisfaction.

I've never had money to 'throw' around. This has made me a little less afraid to try doing things myself.
