The one thing I like least about warm weather

In my recent post about picnics @AbbyGreenhill reminded me how much I hate bugs during the warm months. That is probably the one thing that I dislike about camping and other outdoor activities. So how do all of you deal with the bugs when the weather is warm?

Depends on the kind of bug....we have a gadget filled with sugar water and the wasp go in to eat and they drown and can't get out. The worst are stink bugs..mosquitoes don't bother me they like my husband better. Horse flies are the worst and they always attack when we are in the pool...they get swatted at with whatever is handy to swat them with. I am more concerned about bigger pests, snakes once in a while come to visit.

@Happy2BeMe The horse flies drive Ruby crazy - once one buzzes her she runs in the garage and won't come back out!

We don't have bugs while we camp, I think its the river that keeps bugs away , but one year we had a hatch of black flies - those tiny black biters that drove us crazy, we stopped at the ranger house when we saw the staff sitting at the picnic table with their coffee and no black flies... we asked why???? They told us mint so we headed to the store and bought mint tea and covered ourselves with it and wa-la the black flies...

Good to know. We gets lots of black flies when were are camping. I must remember that trick. So do you just add water to the tea and then spray it on?

We always bring citronella candles to keep the bugs away when we picnic while camping out. It seems to work well.

Last summer, mosquitoes got into my apartment and ate me up alive! I had bites everywhere, so I was thrilled when it got cold. This summer I should have my air conditioner so hopefully they won't bother me as much. I'm also going to find something for my skin to repel them. I really don't want to go through that again!

@Happy2BeMe I read yesterday that certain essential oils are perfect for repelling bugs and allowing us to stay free of chemicals. So I'm hoping I'll be able to do that this summer!

mosquitoes thrive during summer days. we light a coil to keep these blood-suckers away.
It is getting cool now. The morning was cold that I covered myself with a blanket last night. This morning, it was gloomy with some drizzles. It is this kind...

How do I deal with them? Best way I can in that moment. I don´t like to kill flies and I dislike fly spray also and so I give them a warning to get out quick otherwise they have had it. I am generous I leave them the kitchen door open wide open in fact. If they have not goine in five mins they are out for the count.

@Happy2BeMe However I don´t kill Spiders or Daddy Long Legs or Bees and the Wasps I give a wide berth. I have put outside this week Daddly Long Legs and Spiders as well.

I guess you are lucky. They can get really bad here at times that it is miserable going outside especially in the early mornings and evenings.

I agree, that is the main thing I don't like about warm weather. We use Off when going out for longer periods and if we are sitting out on the back porch, we light those Tiki Torches that let off insect repellent into the air that keeps bugs away.

I use the candles made for mosquitoes, clip on OFF, and try not to be out at dusk when they are at their worse. When camping, being near the fire helps. When the bats come out I'm happy because they each eat thousands on mosquitoes a night.
