There Are No Dumb Questions

You might have heard someone say that before, that there are no dumb questions. However, sometimes I think people may come close to it. Years ago, before mylot quit paying and then restarted, I first told everyone my mom had dementia, and she was only 46 at the time. I gave the symptoms, and related the kind of dementia, of the front temporal lobe. Someone asked me, "Have you taken her to the doctor?" Now, I know they meant well, but I had to read that question repeatedly because I found it so out there. I just laughed and laughed. I just read a discussion the other day where a woman related her illness. She talked about her doctors, the medicine she was taking, and someone actually responded that she was too young to actually have that. Well, that's a relief. What do neurologists and other specialists know!? I think we have a WebMD culture that may be a little out of touch.

I think the answer is this: People don't read a post but just skim through it. This can lead to embarrassing comments and stupid questions.

Sometimes they are funny...other times not so funny and show a sort of disrespect because the post wasn't read correctly. That being said I always allow for language issues and also my personal lack of writing ability

@LoriAMoore sometimes things come out not funny we do have to remember that although mylot is a US site it has international members. Sometimes the UK and US misunderstand each other and we are supposed to speak the same language

I know questions usually don't bother me, but asking me the same question over and over again because you weren't listening, or paying attention irritates me :-)

That was an ignorant question to ask you, it shows insensitivity. You're missing her aren't you? Hugs for you

@AmbiePam For me, missing my Dad, I still do, but the pain lessens. I hope that you find that.

I am so sorry that your mom got dementia at such a young age. Some people just don't think before they speak and say dumb things.

I think there are some very dumb questions contrary to what we've been told

I didn't want to say that so I'm glad you did.

I think what can make a question be "dumb" is how it is approached.

That or we may have other types of cultures represented that do not see the doctor often or have access. It also sounds like in the last instance the person did not read and comprehend.

When I was 8 months pregnant a woman walked up to me and asked if I was pregnant. My husband was really quick and said she ate a watermelon seed. The next thing I hear is a child telling her Mom that lady is having a watermelon. I was so speechless couldn't say anything.

We do use the Internet for everything including medical. It could be detrimental to health.

Truthfully, there are a lot of dumb questions. Questions that could easily be answered by the person asking if they looked it up.

Yes there are dumb questions. I noticed a pattern in a few women that I knew with dementia, one they followed a strict daily routine. I am learning to become a "nature" doctor. When the meds don`t work for Tony`s upset stomach I will give him dill or blackberry and it works. but I am no brain fixer upper.

sometimes there are very dumb questions There are also dumb people...like someone who has blocked me and has the IQ of a cabbage...he's here...had to log out to see him though When you respond and see 3 responders and only 2 responses it is suspicious

Good grief! I wish some people would realize that there is another person on the other end, who reads their comments and posts, and has feelings and a life, and troubles.. Maybe then people would think before posting something rude or insensitive..

I suppose it is not that serious here for users to ask dumb questions but those could be embarrassing in the real world.

Several users do not read the whole discussion. They read only some words and then they comment, sometimes the comments sound pretty rude.

I think the problem is that some people really want to say something and don't quite know what to say, so they stick their foot in their mouth! lol

I have a saying "Ask a dumb question get a dumb answer" LOL! When the woman ask me if I'd taken her to the doctor I'd probably said "Why?" Honestly, on here, I think a lot of people just don't read. I agree with you about WebMD. Someone gets something wrong looks up their symptoms and before you know it they think they are dying!
