There are a wide variety of jobs that can be done. Some of them pay fairly well. You can do everything from getting paid for an oil change, to buying yogurt, touring apartment communities or senior centers or going to amusement parks. It is a fun and interesting way to make a few bucks,or more but you have to know which companies to sign up with by reading reviews on shopper forums. There is a mystery shopper forum online that is very good and you can read feedback on various companies.

I thought about this but I didn't really want to do the travelling that would be involved from here.

Yeah sometimes it can be a hike, but the pay for some of them is worth it, especially if you can combine shops along a route..that works sometimes too. I have two scheduled for the same area today..well I should say trying to schedule, having some issues with that at the moment. I am sure it will come together eventually though.

I tried doing it - just the once. I had to do an unpaid trial shop in a town 30 miles away and made such a spextacular mess of it that they never used me after that and I lost money on the travel. I may post about it here one day. I'm sure others are much more competent mystery shoppers!

It takes awhile to get the hang of it..but isn't terribly difficult once you know the ropes. The most important thing is to have a thorough understanding of the instructions, and ask if you have a question, doing the wrong thing can invalidate your shop or you may end up with reduced pay. That has happened to me a few times...sadly.

@asfarasiknow Yes, that is why you need to join a forum or an organization so you can recognize the scammers from the legit opportunities.

@asfarasiknow I have messed up completely and been forgiven. However there is at least one mystery shopping company that has let me know they no longer require my services. Luckily, there are hundreds of others and I have learned a few lessons along the way!

This is something I'm very interested in doing. I'm going to look up if there are local companies looking for mystery shoppers here in Manila.

There might be, as it is an urban setting.

@allen0187 That's funny! I did too, I got curious as to whether they were doing it there after I read your comment. I hope it works out. The problem is sometimes the assignments aren't too close to where you are living...but good luck!

@paigea Yeah me too. I am planning to do two tomorrow, which will be a lot of writing, but they are in the same area.

Yeah, if you plan it well, you can make enough to pay utility bills and so forth. It sometimes involves route shopping though.

@snowy22315 I do plan several in the next town to make it worth driving there. Mostly I try to do them when I am driving some where anyway!

I was always interested in doing mystery shopping but since I don't have my car every day I didn't know if this would be a disadvantage.

You usually have a bit of flexibility as to when you do the shops.

If you have a Safeway nearby, they sometimes hire shoppers.. Also, if you have a smartphone, Field Agent gives you mystery shops based on your zipcode..but those are minimal pay, and they are particular as well.
