I will not mow the grass in the rain

As we all know the growth of grass stagnates during the winter, but rejuvenates as spring approaches. My grass is now coming out of hibernation and beginning to sprout up at an alarming rate. It is always a good idea to keep on top of such situations in order to avoid the grass becoming too high, thus making the shear volume of grass difficult to deal with. Unfortunately this is not so easy at the moment. Recently we have been experiencing rain every day, which really is a problem. Not only does the rain help to aid the grass in its growth, but makes it very difficult to handle. Apart from the obvious reluctance to mow the grass while it is raining, it is not viable to mow it between rain showers either. I have done this is in the past and the damp grass sticks to the lawnmower. It can be rather laborious manually removing the blockages in the mower caused by the grass, plus it results in having to totally dismantle the mower afterwards to clean out all the grass adhering to the rotor and other parts. I need a few dry days so that the grass will dry and I can eventually cut it.

You need to quit dancing. It must be a previously unknown rain dance.

At the speed that I am able to dance the grass would have gone into a coma.

@Asylum It is apparently the right speed as the rain keeps falling.

Wet grass clogs a mower surprisingly quickly. I hope you get your dry days soon before the grass gets too high.

When it becomes fairly tall there is not enough room in the dustbin, so it has to be spread over a longer period.

Mine is a decent size because I have a garden front and back, but I usually do it in stages.

We have a lawn on our terrace which is not mowed as it is grown there to keep the downstairs cool. . Also the grass is such that it does not grow tall.

Who is this cute gecko working at the laptop Barry? I fully agree that it's a very bad idea to mow the grass when it is wet. It is raining from Tuesday night here and when it will finally stop I have to wait a few days before mowing. In the meantime I watch the grass grow.

@LadyDuck Fake grass would be much easier to deal with. My pet gecko is a great help because he can type better than I do.

I can now understand the old record by The Move, I can hear the grass grow. The gecko is the one that writes most of my discussions for me.

@Asylum I hate to see the grass grow, I am very tempted to buy fake grass and to cover the lawn. The gecko is really cute.

Yes, mowing the grass in the rain just doesn't work for so many reasons. Thankfully, grass dries rather quickly and you'll be able to get it all cut before you know it!

I have overheated my mower too many times trying to mow when the grass is still too wet. One of these days I am sure that I will burn it out, but sometimes there is not really much of an alternative. When my brother had a lawn care business, I can remember a few times when we had to mow during a thunder and lightening storm, because we had to get the job complete once we started regardless of the weather. That was not fun!

If you mow the grass in the rain then you need to clear the access to the collection receptacle regular in order to avoid the mower straining and overheating. This is definitely not a desirable job'

@Asylum I do try to do that, but it is definitely a pain, especially when the grass is already long, because I have to do it so often. There are times, though, when I have just cleaned it and it gets clogged again right away, and those are the times when it tends to overheat.

A few days of dry sounds like the right choice before mowing the grass. Sometimes we get rain for days and it seems we have a pond rather than a lawn @Asylum

That is the one thing that drives my hubby up the wall during the summer. He gets up and waits till the dew dries under the sun, gets ready to mow and we get a rain shower.

Wow, you're already ready to mow your lawn? We don't normally have to even think about that for another month or so. I think ours is still yellowish, but maybe after next week it will get greener for we're supposed to get almost a week or rain too unless the forecast has changed by then. My neighbor will probably mow his long before I'll consider doing mine. He even tends to mow his more than once per week just cuz he can, I think.

It is a real benefit, but the job always returns as the winter begins to subside.
