Quite a day beginning and ending in comedy.
My long in preparing talk on the nature and history of comedy was this morning. Not many attended due to atrocious weather conditions. I narrowly avoided the hail storms myself. The audience I got was lovely though.
From there I rushed to another voluntary assignment at a book-proposal meeting between the university social work support group I am involved in, which involved meeting an academic work publisher to help promote book the team organizers are creating, in which I now have a chance to help create some chapters.
I expected to be coming home after this but the team let me know that they were running a leaflet stall at a campus open day to help celebrate World Social Work Day, and invited me along. I helped on the stall a little and looked round other stalls.
I got lunch in the student cafe, for which I could have claimed expenses but somehow I lost the receipt from it which was frustrating but hardly the end of the World.
I was then invited to attend one of several workshops taking place. I picked one for a creative writing group who specialize in true stories. Three fabulous poets from the group presented very brave testimonies on their struggles against prejudice, intolerance and sexual abuse. There had been plans to get the audience writing and sharing our work, but discussion with the three extraordinary writers who presented their work to us left no time for that.
The open day attendees were treated to a lots of free wine and cheese and there was so much cheese left over that we were invited to bring some home with us too to clear the tables.
The day ended with a free stand-up comedy show, presented by two social workers who now present their experiences as a stand up-show – they were very funny, irreverent and educational too.
I got home about 9.30pm, having expected to finish my adventures about seven hours earlier. My thanks to everyone who helped make it such a great day.

@arthurchappell That's so cool. What do you notice about the new generation of aspiring writers?

At least you had an interesting and productive day. I was at my PC the whole time trying to catch up having fallen way behind last week.
