My Friends Are All Falling Apart

March 23, 2017 7:47am CST
was talking to one of my good friends yesterday and she was telling me all about her ailments. It was almost a repeat conversation that I had with another friend a few days before. Both have different ailments but it just seemed as if the whole conversation revolved around aches and pains. I know there's always jokes about old people and all they know how to talk about is what hurts. I feel very lucky that I'm not plagued with various health problems. I do have my share of aches and pains but it's not the focus of my conversations. I'd much rather talk about something else (like a new recipe, a good book, etc) so it left me with this conclusion..... I NEED YOUNGER FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!

I am not young, but I am in better shape than my niece that needs to heat her neck as soon as she comes back home and has constant back pain. It's not a matter of age I suppose.

@Marilynda1225 Surely the job we do during all our life can do a lot. My husband who is 70 surely has so many more aches and pains than my mother who is 96.

I guess we all age differently. My son is a plumber and only 41 yrs old but he's a mess with aches and pains. I guess it's from years of bending and kneeling etc.

That was funny! I'm glad for now my health is very good. I hope as I get older I will still be healthy. I don't feel older than 18 physically which I thank God for. I think all the kids I surround myself with keeps me feeling young. =)

LOL! We do need positive energy around us or we'll start falling apart ourselves. I'm actually going to my annual physical today and when I do that I write down everything I want to mention so I don't forget. As I thought about that this morning I thought, how does a doctor handle listening to complaints all day long? How does that not bring them down? Especially psychiatrists and psychologists? What a depressing vocation!

@Marilynda1225 I actually told my doctor that I was thinking about how hard it must be listening to complaints all day (after she asked me if I had a list LOL!) and she responded that it was just part of the job.

Not something I gave much thought to but now that you mentioned it I guess doctors can get tired of hearing complaints all the time. As for psychiatrists and psychologists that a profession I'd never be able to do.

I know what you mean talking about aches and pains is not my choice of conversation either.

Even being older with plenty of aches and pains there has to be more to life and conversation than that topic isn't there?

@Marilynda1225 Yes I am sure there is but some old people like to talk about their aches and pains.

I'm glad your coughing has stopped and you're back to feeling good. I feel good most days too and I don't think I'm much younger than you (if at all)

This is why I attend seminars and lectures at uni. I want to be together with young people, not old ones. I avoid conversations about diseases. I have former colleagues who always ask me how I am hoping I'm going to ask them back and they can launch their complaints. I always say that I'm fine whether it's true or not and never ask them back. I can recommend this!

Uh, younger friends will be the same way. I am at least ten years old or more most of my friends. I laugh when they start complaining about how much they hurt. I always say you think you hurt now. Wait another ten years and tell me if you feel the same.

@Marilynda1225 That is so true. They do not have a clue. I laugh when they try to compare their pain. I am like you have been standing there for ten minutes. Suck it.

Are they doing anything to manage their aches and pains? if they are not going to do anything about it, they are going to wear out all their friends about their health problems. The best way is for them to learn to do stretching. They can learn it by watching Youtube.

@Marilynda1225 Going to the doctor is part of it, not the whole of it. After all, a person does not go to the doctor every day, while doing stretching and other exercises every day is a sure way to reduce the intensity of pain and aches. It all depends on their motivation to live as much a pain-free life as possible.

I'm all for some chit chat about aches and pains but I'd rather talk about grandkids, a good book, even a television show etc.

I hate to hear or make complaints, it doesn't do any good, but I suppose when you are really feeling the aches and pains its on your mind a lot.

I can appreciate my friends having aches and pains cause none of us are spring chickens anymore. But, can't we get past that and talk about something else since most of our conversations last a long time.

Kindred spirits Dianne!! I envy you with all your biking, walking, swimming, shopping etc. My days are tame compared to yours but I'd be happy if someone whisked me off for a trip around the world

I used to laugh at those stories about old people, until I got old. I'm not laughing any more. I do try to talk about something other than my aches and pains. Getting old is just plain painful. That's all there is to it.

Getting old isn't much fun but I'm trying to make the best of it and at least stay young at heart

That is the reason why women try so hard to remain young and look young , because aging is a state not well received by most - even men choose younger women to marry. The thing is, we will all get old -- if we do not die before- and my advice to those who are still young , both men and women, is to take care of your bodies and watch what you put into it. One can grow old gracefully with the right preparation.

Good for you Marie making sure to treat your diabetes so you can stay off medication. So many people ignore it and just figure the medication will take care of their unhealthy lifestyle (my brother was one)
