The ALDI store in our area was updated recently. In order to do this, many things were removed temporarily. This photo shows what one store looked like in the middle of this. ALDI closed some stores for a time while doing the updates in order to also add square footage. The store was fine with us before the upgrade and usually have plenty of fresh produce and other items we like. However, we have been told more items will be added soon that we might appreciate. Did your local ALDI store go through renovations?

Do you know that ALDI is German and that the two brothers who founded it invented discount stores? They didn't exist before they had the idea. @PatZAnthony @RubyHawk

@Marty1 I've never heard of Bottom Dollars in Germany. Besides, we don't have dollars. We have Euro.

I certainly didn't know that. Are they responsible for other stores as well?

Our ALDI stores have been renovated last year, I cannot believe they use the same tiles in the United States. I suspect that their stores are identical all over the world.

When we lived in Cleveland TN they opened - we went that day and the produce was old..never went back. Where we are now there isn't one - just United Grocery or something like that..a junk place.

@AbbyGreenhill We are blessed to be in an area of farmers and some of those have greenhouses, so fresh things all year! Funny thing is, when we say plums and other things taste like nothing, we are told it is us. And we've been told as we get older we loose our taste. We call *BS* b/c the good things are still good. It is not us, it is them.

@PatZAnthony I can buy old produce in any grocery store - I just bought plums at Ingles and they had no flavor at all...horrible.

There are no ALDI stores in Oregon that I know of, but stores are generally better after a facelift.

@JamesHxstatic Never knew that. The Trader Joe's here is pricey. Our family just needs plain old food like our grandparents grew!

@PatZAnthony I daresay I need one worse than you do. I learned today that Aldi and Trader Joe's are "brother" corporations owned by a German company.

What a surprise! You have a German owned supermarket there in North Carolina? Do you have German bread there?

It is looking a bit more like a traditional supermarket these days. However, one thing I was glad to see at Aldi's was when they started taking credit cards. That helps alot! Not that I pay for groceries on credit, but I forgot the pin number on my debit card..

We do not have one in our town, but there is one next town over, but not convenient for us to make the trip, especially in California traffic. That is cool your store is getting revamped, just watch the prices because that is what they like to do, pass the expenses of the remodel on to their customers.

I have not been to my local aldi in quite a long time. I imagine it would be one of the ones to receive more square footage though. I wonder if they are doing that because Lidl's are coming to our area? Atleast here in W-S, a Lidl's is in the process of development.

I have not lived in an area with an Aldi in yrs since I lived in IL. I miss them and remember shopping in them all the time when growing up. Here we have either Winco or Grocery Outlet for lower prices on groceries. These 2 definitely beat the other stores for prices. Just wish they carried everything we need.

We have a new one. It is miles from my house, but I had reason to drive over that way. I could not get all I want, but it really helped in a very thin week money wise as I got all sorts of veg for 30p and marmite, which I saw for 3.27 locally, for £2.27. The cheese is also cheap. However, nothing is organic. I wish they would bring that in.
