I Need a Better Method

March 23, 2017 8:52pm CST
I keep forgetting what time I'm taking my pain pills. I have a general idea, but not specifically. So then, to be safe, I wait too long to take my next dose. i've heard of marking off on the pill bottle the times you take it, but I forgot about doing that, of course. That also means I have to keep a pen handy. Perhaps I should though. I'm driving myself nuts. I'm pretty sure I took my last dose at 2 which means I am definitely able to have more, but.... I'm not completely sure. So to be safe, I'm waiting until 10. Do you have a hard time remembering when to take your meds?

I only take one pill at night before bed. Easy. If you have an iPhone, you can ask Siri to notify you.

I do not take any meds but my husbands sets an alarm and takes his at the same time every day. That way he knows if he took them or not.

No one here takes any pain meds. It is good that you are waiting. Probably the less you take the better! We do use supplements, but it is easy to remember these for some reason.

@jillybean1222 Here it is illegal to drive on pain or sinus medication. Odd, huh?

today i had to take just a regular tylenol in place of the prescription pain meds because i had to drive to soccer. not only is it bad to drive while on the meds, but also, they seem to be making me very nauseous.

@PatZAnthony i think it depends on the medication around here. i didn't drive while having it. i made sure i had let it out of my system first.

Why not to install an app in your phone to be notified when it's time to take pills? If you have an Android phone there is a free app called Pill Reminder.

I don't take any. Vince has little plastic containers. There are all sorts of different configurations available. His has found compartments so he has breakfast, lunch, dinner and before bed pills in each one. Something like this might help you too. Or, if you take four a day, put 4 in a cup or container each morning and you might be able to keep track of if you've had them or not.

I don't take medicines but have taken vitamins. I never do remember to take them at a certain time. I have an aunt who sets an alarm on her cellphone. It goes off and she knows its' time to take her meds.

Not usually, but I was having the same problem after my surgery. I know of at least two times that I took it too close together. I was going to wait on taking them and then remembered after popping them in my mouth. After that I got out a pill container which I got from my mom. I'm no longer taking many pills, so I'm not using it anymore at present. Even though I divided them up in that container, I still have an envelope where I'd write the time I took the last dose and the time I could safely take the next one. Then, when that time rolled around, if it was past the time, I'd change what I'd written so I'd be prepared for the next round.

@jillybean1222 If all you need to remember is the one pill, writing notes is the best bet. Just keep your notepad with your pill bottle. You can even rubber band it on so you don't misplace it.

I don't need any, but Anne takes several, morning and night and has one of those boxes where you put the amount to take in little slots. Maybe setting a timer would be best for those pain pills?

I think its a good sign, you forget to take your medicine because you don't feel the pain. Because if you had the pain, you sill surely remember the pill.
