My husband, Vince, belongs to several photo sites and enjoys the challenge involved in putting up photos to fit with a suggested theme. On one site, they wanted a photo taken today. And this is the result. It shows our old Carl Ecke piano, which was manufactured in the late 1890s in Berlin, and the double bass that we bought for our son when he was studying to gain entry to the West Australian Conservatorium of Music.
I have always been pleased that the piano still has its candle-holders. Many of these old pianos do not but you can see the screw-holes where they have once been. Vince set up his new studio lights to get the photo exactly as he wanted it.

It is nice to think it has been in the family for so long. It would have come across to WA from the East by ship.

Most seem to have had the holders removed although you can see the screw-holes.

So have you had performances for music lovers to satiate their greed for great pieces on the piano? Wich is your favourite song?

Interiors are so difficult. Wow! This is in your home? Those candle holders are fascinating. Thank you for sharing this with us - looks like Vince did get the lighting exactly right, I hope he does well on his photo contest.

The piano has always been in our family. I've shed many tears over that keyboard.

They sure do not make things like they used too. So does it still play?

Yes, it plays beautifully. We've kept it tuned all its life.

Thanks. I could count on one hand the pianos I've seen that still have the holders.

Spooky. The ghost of a piano player from 1900 is ready to play and haunt you.
