An Inside Shot

My husband, Vince, belongs to several photo sites and enjoys the challenge involved in putting up photos to fit with a suggested theme. On one site, they wanted a photo taken today. And this is the result. It shows our old Carl Ecke piano, which was manufactured in the late 1890s in Berlin, and the double bass that we bought for our son when he was studying to gain entry to the West Australian Conservatorium of Music. I have always been pleased that the piano still has its candle-holders. Many of these old pianos do not but you can see the screw-holes where they have once been. Vince set up his new studio lights to get the photo exactly as he wanted it.

It's lovely isn't it? Makes them both look great. The piano doesn't quite look like new anymore although it's not too bad.

Vince has something in common with my husband, the passion for taking photos. This one is very good.

@JudyEv I know for sure who is the guinea pig. My husband complains all the time that his model refuses to pose for him.

He would like to do more portrait photography so needed some new lights. Guess who has to be the guinea pig while he works out how to place them to best advantage?

It is nice to think it has been in the family for so long. It would have come across to WA from the East by ship.

@amadeo It will be passed on to a family member - if I can find someone who wants it. :)

Most seem to have had the holders removed although you can see the screw-holes.

So have you had performances for music lovers to satiate their greed for great pieces on the piano? Wich is your favourite song?

It hasn't been used for performances as it isn't professional quality really. We've had some great singalongs around it though. Vince plays by ear and one brother is particularly good at playing for a sing-song.

Thanks. There are a couple of bits on the body where the top layer is peeling. Looks like it got wet at some point n its life.

Thanks. With his new software he can make it look like an oil painting. That sort of treatment would suit this one I think.

Interiors are so difficult. Wow! This is in your home? Those candle holders are fascinating. Thank you for sharing this with us - looks like Vince did get the lighting exactly right, I hope he does well on his photo contest.
