Hi, Everybody. How are you doing today? I have a grandma, she recently had an operation and she stays most of the time on bed. She is aged around 70. She use to watch TV series but recently I feel she might not like to watch the TV. Don't know why? I thought to suggest her about reading books, she said she could try and asked me to help her get some book. But when asked about the type of book she want, she was silent. And here I am very unsure of what should i suggest her. So want you guys help. Image Courtesy: 123rf.com

What could a woman of her age like? She can read, I mean she will be able to read. But she forget things. She cannot keep things in mind for long. I don;t know what she would love. I am so very confused.

@subhajitsil6 do you have audio books there? try and think of things she has shown interest in and there will be a book on that subject I'm sure. What sort of tv shows does she like?

Today some elders like reading books about the health and this is why the healthcare books sell so well. Since your grandma just had an operation, perhaps it is fine for me to read some health books. She may have a better diet and it will be good for her recovery.

@subhajitsil6 The books like how to have healthier life, which foods are good for you etc. There are quite a lot of books like that today. Perhaps you can go to the library and borrow them.

@tom_view I hardly get time to sit with her and have words. I always try to make her happy in every possible manner. But my work schedule is something which hardly gives me time.

Try Amazon. There is a genre 'Cosy Mysteries'. You can read short summaries and find out if your grandmother might be interested.

@Nawsheen These days she talk less. I have asked her multiple time if she is in some pain or some illness, but she says she is perfect. I tried to take her for a checkup but she said no. As days are passing she is talking less, and perhaps loves to spend more time on her bed with a vague look.

What kind of genre does she like? If she likes crime or mysteries I would suggest James Patterson, John Grisham and Tami Hoag!

The first books I think of (other than The Holy Bible): The Greatest Salesman in the World, Think & Grow Rich, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (series by Douglas Adams), stuff by Shakespeare, Mark Twain, Tolkien ...
84 books based on 5 votes: The Horse Whisperer by Nicholas Evans, The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley, The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, The Five ...

@subhajitsil6 Do you have friends that want to share books with you? Maybe you could put a book in front of her and see if she likes it and then if she does then maybe you can find more books for her or go online and find some books. Do you have something online you can show her maybe?
