Car Boot Sale Day

Today is the day of our car boot sale so I won't be here much until later in my day. We got up at 4am just because we could and we've been playing on our computers since. The sale hours are supposed to be from 8am till about lunch-time. We intend to be out there by 7am so we have time to set up so we'll leave about 6.30am. Our friends rang today and we are now taking a few items to try to sell for them. They say we can have the proceeds but we won't do that. They have an electric leaf-blower, a juicer, and some outdoor chairs. We were selling some low outdoor chairs but keeping two. Our friend's chairs are nicer so we are going to sell all of ours but keep two of theirs. So you could say we've bought something already! And we haven't even got to the sale yet. The photo is of some float valves that we are putting up for sale. These are attached to a pipe in a stock water trough and allow water to flow into the trough. The float floats up and when the trough is full the valve cuts off the flow of water. As the water level drops, the float lowers and allows more water in. The only problem with them is that some horses like to play with them, pushing them up and down and wasting precious water. In that case, a cover might be placed over them.

Yes, they are. I forgot about the ones in toilets. I've written about the sale now. It was okay but a bit disappointing.

I guess one needs to put some balls in a trough that isnt covered, like kick balls, for the horses to play with

They do make toys for horses now. I don't know how many actually get played with.

You call it "car boot sale" like the Brits. We call it swap meet or yard sale here.

@JudyEv Here garage or yard sale is used interchangeably. We have a garage and hold sales in it yet I sometimes call it yard sale. It's the same to most people

We use these terms too though not 'yard sale'. We'd use 'garage sale' as people might set up in their garage and on their driveway.

Many animals do seem to have a sense of humour. Certainly horses do .

I hope that you had a very profitable sale. I am terrible at this sort of thing, I just give them away.

Much of what we 'sold' we more or less gave away too but at least it's gone now.

I couldn't think what you were on about for a moment! Animals are a bit like that - always making more work for their owners.

We had these floats in those overhead tanks that supplied water to all members who lived there. Sometimes when floats failed to work there would be overflow. Good you got those chairs for yourself.

The floats aren't foolproof by any means. We're pleased with the chairs.

They are similar to the ones used in toilets for the same purpose.

That's true. I forgot that most people would have seen the smaller ones used in toilets.
