The eyes have it

Eyes are important, we need them. If your eyes are bad you can't even read this dribble that I am typing right now! But the eyes I will talk about are the 'eyes' on potatoes. I was scrolling through Facebook and came across an article detailing how to grow potatoes. If you have grown them in the traditional manner and weren't happy with the process or the results, maybe this new method will be easier on your back and same you time. I am providing the link at the end of this post, since I don't intend to reinvent the wheel by rewriting the directions. Just to get your curious, let me say no digging in dirt is required to grow or harvest potatoes. You only need 4 metal fence posts, wire fencing, hay, a little soil and potatoes with eyes. We have grown potatoes the old fashioned way and this newer version might be worth trying Photo from Pixabay

I've seen that and would like to try it myself someday. I've seen a few other methods that looked cool too.

We grew them for years the 'old' way but with a small 8x16 garden we have not room so this would work if my husband is willing to try it.

Beautiful picture! That is an interesting way to do them. I don't do them as I have no garden and they would not work on the balcny - and I don't use many these days anyway. p.s. To make your link go live, edit and remove it and then add it again. When we post both a pic and a link we should add the link separately to make it show

I like that, esp being vertical it doesn't take up near the space

I have grown them in a similar fashion but in old tyres. When the green shoots appear above the ground, add more dirt and another tyre and eventually you end up with layers of potatoes all the way to the top of however many tyres you use.

I guess the process is basically the same, but around here wire and hay are more plentiful!

This is a good idea. I grew them in bags last year, they grow better than in the garden and they are less attacked by parasites.

@AbbyGreenhill Yes, I got enough potatoes not to need to buy them for the whole year. Now I have placed some potatoes with eyes in the basement and I see they are sprouting a log, it's time that I plant them.
