Animals are precious. Do you think laws should be harsher to protect animals from neglect ? Prison sentence or a fine ?

South African law now allows a private citizen to bring charges against a person who has mistreated animals, not just actionable by the state. People's pets are like family, and should always be well cared for.

Defiantly it should happen. Afterall pets are a part of family. Although we don't have one but still I love animals specially cats and I think proper care should be taken of them as they are someway dependent on us.

I definitely think that there should be harsher laws to protect animals. Anyone that could hurt an innocent animal is not a good person at all and probably has some serious issues and will more than likely escalate to more serious crimes as well.

Hooray for South Africa! I think that if a person harms an animal intentionally they should be put in prison. If they will harm an innocent animal they will certainly harm a human. The same goes for harming children. People like that do not deserve to be free. I would go as far as to say that they should be completely isolated from society for life.
