Former Chicago White Sox outfielder Austin Jackson, 30, was informed by Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona he has made the Opening Day Roster. Jackson signed a minor league contract with the defending American League champions on January 25, 2017. Jackson will provide the Indians some insurance as an additional outfielder depth since outfielders Michael Brantley and Lonnie Chisenhall are recovering from a shoulder injuries which may delay making their playing time with the team on Opening Day. Jackson impressed the Indians management by having a batting average of .375 during the spring training games this year after he recovered from knee surgery in late August 2016

I figured he would make the team since Rajah Davis had left.

Austin impressed the team with his decent batting average during spring training this year. A good story.
