I found all these great songs that have titles that ask questions, so I broke them down into four lists: who/what/why questions and all others, one each for country and rock. Here's the next question from the who, what, or why portion of the list in country music. #7: Who Will Buy the Wine - Charlie Walker Another one of those terrific, forgotten greats in country music. If you saw the movie Sweet Dreams, the Patsy Cline biopic, you have at least seen Charlie Walker: he played Cowboy Copas in the film. Walker started out as a DJ (he was actually inducted into the Country DJ Hall of Fame); and, as many DJs did, he sang on the side. He took a Harlan Howard song, "Pick Me Up on Your Way Down," and made it into a monster hit. While Walker's career wasn't exactly Country Music Hall of Fame material, he had a long, steady career with several great songs. Here he puts that Texas fiddle and shuffle feel on a Billy Mize song about a woman who left her husband and baby for the honky tonk world. She is, shall we say, "loose," opting to go home with "whoever sets 'em up and tips the waitress." It's a sad subject, but a great song. Who Will Buy the Wine Written by Billy Mize Recorded by Charlie Walker From Country Style, 1960 Not long ago you held our baby's bottle:
#11 country hit in 1960 (Columbia). Written by Billy Mize.

I had to stop and think on Billy Mize. He was a local guy here in LA hosting TV shows. Bakersfield connection. I can just remember his name from then.

I'm still bummed that "Who's Gonna Pay the Bail?" by The 69 Eyes didn't make the rock side! Seriously though, you're right. What a sad song.
