These past few days of working a different shift have been enlightening. If anything, I spend a bit more time internalizing things. I get the impression that I come off as being a bit... standoffish. That does not surprise me. When I am in my own little world, I am often so lost in it that I forget my outside appearance is intimidating. That's a trait I got from my father. He always looked gruff and non-approachable. I can't speak for him, but for me, it's mostly because I am deep in thought. I don't like to be interrupted when I am like this. I have to make a conscious effort to smile more while I am on this new shift. I digress... I think even when talking to others who work for the company.. (I don't call them my co-workers because they aren't on the same team as me) I come off as abrupt. I'm not going to change that mind you. Atleast I notice it though. It's just who I am, if people don't like it? They do not have to talk to me. I'm not mean... I just don't suffer ridiculousness.

LOL. you sound like me... I sit here all night by myself (for a reason. I don't care for people all that much) and then the fist shift people come in and they are like ... Good Morning! ... oh yeah, right.. Hi! I can't remember the intricacies of interacting with other humans.. I prefer animals. LOL.

Third shift for me entails communicating with a few people, and that's it. That's not even all that bad, and I generally just say "yes", "no", "okay", or "that's cool." Now I have to stop and show customers where things are, talk to the other people that work there sometimes... I mean I am still left to my own devices for the most part.. but I still feel awkward haha.

@ScribbledAdNauseum yea, all of my "people" interaction third shift is on the phone. I work at an answering service. And then I have to talk to the girls that come in in the morning for an hour.. although I notice I very rarely say anything.. and they are like "are you okay?" " you are so quiet." yep.. it's just me. that is how I roll.. lol

@minx267 Well not to mention that while they are just waking up, we are ready for bed... I don't think people take that into consideration too much. I'm definitely quieter when I am ready to go home, wind down, and sleep. Maybe years of working third has made us look like loners, but I don't think we are. Just selective in what we say and who we say it to.

Work is a place for work and sometimes it is hard to make a happy medium in the social aspect of having to be around other people in the work place. I'd rather just phone it in.

It's hard to smle all the time, as long as you are doing the job i don't think your coworkers should mind.

Not co-workers... .I don't call them that because while they are there working in other departments, they aren't the people I normally work with.. I work for a grocery store as a stock clerk.
