I Learned Something I Didn't Know From My Neighbor's Photo She Took

Yesterday, I got so scared when I logged into Facebook and saw a picture my neighbor took! It was taken in her backyard facing her woods. It showed a black snake slithering down a tree in her woods! She made a comment above the photo where she said "that she had heard that snakes can travel and live in trees but that she had never seen it herself until she saw it in her woods"! This neighbor lives across the road from us! It really makes me wonder if I should ever take a walk in our woods again! My husband had cleared an area of our woods out that makes a pretty little scenic area behind our house. It is nice to walk there and I have many times, now I am not so sure I should or be very aware if I decide to. I am telling you the truth. Snakes scare me worse than rats or spiders and I never knew they could live in trees!

Snakes scare me just as much as rats! Spiders I am afraid but I can handle. Lizards are common here and they do no harm ~ I am not afraid of them.

Well the important thing is to be careful. First you should speak to the neighbor and find out what kind of snake it is and if it is poisonous and then take it from there.

Carry a walking stick with you... Most snakes are afraid of you.

That is a good idea. My husband says the same thing that they are "afraid of you".

I'd hate to live where there are snakes, I think I'd be afraid to go into the woods too.

I just wish they would stay in their areas and never bother humans.

Snakes are one of the things that terrify me. My husband has gotten rid of two here in our yard in the past month. I knew they got around but didn't know they could live in a tree. Ugg!

@LeaPea2417 I am thinking that if one fell or jumped out of a tree and landed on me I would have a heart attack.

I read it somewhere before that it is good to have cats if there's snakes around.

There are some of our neighbors who have cats that live outdoors and roam the neighborhood. I have been thinking lately how I would like to have a cat.

@diosabella Yes, the more colorful are poisonous. This was a black snake which is not poisonous but I remember some years back a kid in our neighborhood got bitten by a non poisonous black snake and he still went to the doctor. I am not sure how his bite was treated.

You've never seen pictures of those boas or pythons in the jungles or swamps? Or did you just mean the small snakes... My dad is terrified of snakes. He grew up in the country, and one day he was outside barefoot, when he stepped on a snake. He went one way and the snake went the other!

Do you know what kind of snake it was? It would not stop me from going for walks in the woods! I have never seen a snake hanging from a tree so that would startle me. We get lots of snakes here but thankfully I have never encountered a poisonous one.

Yoou should always look up and all around when walking in the woods. They won't bother you if you leave them alone.

Now that you mention it, I have seen them in trees in jungle type movies. I always thought jungles and swamps they may do that, but not in just the regular woods.
