Lately I have been bored with food so I have went to the summer type of foods. A couple days ago I sliced the meat off the bone of chicken breast and fried those, chopping them over a simple salad of lettuce and tomatoes. I boiled the bones because they still have a lot of meat on them and I made chicken salad the next day. Well today I asked Tony what did he want for lunch he said " got anymore chicken cooked? chicken salad with cracker?" I did not have any chicken left, then it hit me, I home freakin can food! I got a jar of chicken out, drained it and made chicken salad, Tony said it was better than the fresh cooked chicken. I canned that chicken back in December 2015.

I have been doing the jam/ jelly and veggies since I was 13 years old. I wanted to go beyond my experience and learn more, I did and now I can put up just about anything in a jar and its safe to eat.

I tried a can of canned chicken I was given and my son did not like it. It looked really gross to me. I think yours being canned by you sounds more appetizing as you know exactly how it was made and what goes into it.

Yeah the store bought is not good. Mine is all natural, 1/2 teaspoon of salt is the only thing added.

Some say till the lid rust off or the seal is broken but I would say four years for any canned item, home or store bought.

that sounds wonderful! I know the commercially canned chicken isn't great, although my cat loves it. Home canned has to be great!

Whoa, for some reason canned chicken didn't even register with me as something I could can at home. I should look into this more. Lol

I wouldn't have thought of it. I didn't realize you could can meat like that - I don[t know why - you can buy canned meat. It's good you found something to feed him that appealed to him. It does take a long time to start feeling better.
